Because it cannot be found, it is not established in this way. If it is established that there is experience of the blue apprehension, then that experience is divided into two types: self-experience and other-experience. First, it is not permissible for you, and second, your own tenet prohibits it. If the pervasiveness of experience is obstructed, then even mere experience is not reasonable. This is how it is refuted, and it is the strongest reasoning for establishing self-awareness. That blue apprehension should not be experienced by a consciousness that has a different function from itself, because if it were, there would be two faults. The first is the fault of infinite regress. If the consciousness that completely determines blue is completely determined by another consciousness that arises immediately after it, then is it necessary or unnecessary for that consciousness to have a consciousness with a different function as a measure? If it is unnecessary, then it will also be unnecessary for the previous consciousness. If it is necessary, then another consciousness will also be necessary for that consciousness, so there will be the fault of infinite regress. If it becomes infinite, then there will be the fault that experience is not established for the first blue apprehension. The second is the fault of being too much to completely determine other objects. If the previous consciousness is determined by the subsequent consciousness, then other objects such as form and sound will not be determined, and it will not transfer to that object, because all knowers, that is, the continuum of consciousness, are the objects of that other previous consciousness. That is not an uncertain pervasion, because if the previous consciousness is completely determined by the subsequent consciousness, then the previous consciousness must be made the object to be apprehended, and then the subsequent consciousness must arise. At that time, the near object to be apprehended of the internal limb is abandoned, because it does not enter the distant external object. If it is thought that the previous consciousness of the blue apprehension that determines blue and the consciousness of the blue apprehension that determines blue arise simultaneously, so there is no fault of transferring to other objects, then if that is the case, then two eye consciousnesses of the same kind but different entities will arise simultaneously in the continuum of one person. If that is admitted, then it will contradict the statement that "sentient beings are one continuum of consciousness, that is, individual entities." Here, the commentary says that consciousness is like piercing a hundred petals of an Utpala flower, and things that arise gradually appear to enter simultaneously. The commentary says that when entering a dancer's room, the dancer's face and song, etc., are the consciousnesses that apprehend the five objects simultaneously.

The answer to the statement that "five consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously" is: The consciousnesses that grasp the five objects arise sequentially, but because their entry is rapid, they appear to arise simultaneously. This explanation is very unreasonable. Because the Svatantrika-Sautrantikas and Cittamatrins who establish self-awareness say that sentient beings each have their own stream of consciousness. As it is said in the Pramanavarttika-karika, "They are only of the same kind, because their functions necessarily change." This means that consciousnesses of the same kind are not considered to arise simultaneously in one person. But they do not consider that consciousnesses of different kinds do not arise simultaneously. When many Tibetans look at brocade, do they not think that multiple consciousnesses that grasp white, red, etc., arise simultaneously? If they answer that those consciousnesses arise sequentially, but appear to arise simultaneously, then they have not understood the meaning of the statement that "each has its own stream of consciousness," which refers to the main consciousnesses of the same kind. They also do not understand that one eye consciousness can grasp many different colors. They also do not seem to recognize the eye consciousness that grasps variegated colors. Therefore, in response to the argument that "consciousnesses of the same kind arise simultaneously," if one answers that they enter rapidly, so although they arise sequentially, they appear to arise simultaneously, it seems reasonable. But the two self-awareness proponents have already refuted that rapid entry is the cause of mistaking it for simultaneous occurrence in the Pramanavarttika-karika. Therefore, it seems difficult to classify this treatise as belonging to the tenets of those two, and it is likely that there is an error in the Chinese version. But those with intelligence should investigate. Therefore, in order to avoid the faults of being without interruption and not cutting off other objects, it is necessary to accept unrefuted self-awareness. Therefore, from the later arising memory of both the object and the subject, it can be inferred that when blue was seen earlier, there was an experience of the object and an experience of the subject. Even so, if there is self-awareness that experiences itself, then since self-awareness can establish others, the Madhyamika asks: By what is this existence known? To this, this answer is an approximate indication. Thus it is said. The second part has three points: actually refuting the views of others; the way in which memory arises in one's own system without self-awareness; and the arguments against such refutation.
