said: In this world, the five consciousnesses arising from the five faculties, without external objects of perception such as blue, but rather placing the seeds of consciousness itself on the Alaya consciousness to ripen, because they have not realized that the appearance of blue and so on arises, people cling to the mind that appears as blue and so on as the object of external perception, and this is attachment. Therefore, there is no other object outside of consciousness. If we say it in another way, in a dream, there is no transformation into other objects such as form, but rather the power of one's own habitual tendencies ripens, just as the mind with the appearance of form, sound, etc. arises. Similarly, even when awake, there is no external object here, only mind, if you say so. The second statement is, this is unreasonable. Just as without the eye faculty, the mind of consciousness that appears as blue and so on arises in a dream. Without the eye faculty, the seeds of consciousness itself, habitual tendencies, ripen, why wouldn't the blind person who is awake see form, etc. like a non-blind person? Because both in dreams and when awake, the absence of the eye faculty is the same. If this also arises without external form, etc., and the nature of consciousness is established, then there is no difference between dreams and being awake. If the reason why the mind's consciousness clearly appears as form, etc. to the blind person who is awake, unlike in a dream, is not the absence of eyes, then what is it? It is that the ability to generate such a mind's consciousness has not matured. Therefore, where there is the maturity of ability, such a mind's consciousness will arise, and that is only in dreams due to the cause of sleep, but not when awake, if you think so. That is unreasonable. If, like you, the ability of the sixth consciousness ripens in a dream, and is absent when awake, then why wouldn't the ability of the sixth consciousness to clearly appear as form, etc. ripen, just as the blind person does not have it when awake, why wouldn't it be absent in a dream? This is reasonable. This is also the logic of resorting to what is to be refuted. If you speak in that way with mere words without any reason, we can also just say it as before. Seeing things in a dream is because, like a blind person when awake, it is separated from the function of the faculty that is the basis of consciousness, the ability

Relying on the eye faculty named "of", it follows the appearance of consciousness. It is not a consciousness of mind arising from the complete transformation of the power of mind consciousness. Therefore, just as the maturation of the habit of appearing objects is not the cause for this awake blind person without eyes, so also sleep in a dream is not the cause of the maturation of the habit of appearing objects. Because if consciousness that is established by its own nature arises without an external object, it does not depend on the maturation of habits. Because a false consciousness of appearing objects in a dream arises from false habits, therefore, in a dream, one should also accept that the consciousness that appears as objects of the environment such as form, etc., like in the waking state, is false, and the eye consciousness in the dream, that is, the cause of consciousness, that is, what serves as the basis. This is stated in the commentary: "In a dream, when completely deciding on an object, it is focused on the union of three." Also, just as in a dream there is no form aggregate and eye, and the eye consciousness produced by the two, similarly, although there are no three: object, faculty, and consciousness of the five senses such as eye consciousness in a dream, in the presence of the person who is dreaming, there is focus on those three, therefore it is declared that one should accept the eye in the dream, the eye consciousness in the dream, and the form in the dream. It is not that those three are considered to be established as eyes, etc., just as one accepts illusory horses and cattle and illusory people, but it is not necessary to consider them to be horses and cattle and people. Therefore, if this is the case, the answers that this Mind-Only school gives to the Middle Way school are the same as the unestablished thesis, that is, what is to be established has not been established, therefore, this debate, that is, the debate of the Mind-Only school, is eliminated, that is, prevented. If we give an example, the Middle Way school says that the three: object, faculty, and consciousness in the waking state are empty because they are established by their own nature, because they are objects of focus, like a dream. When this is said, the Mind-Only school says that the consciousness in the waking state is empty of external objects, because it is consciousness, like the consciousness in a dream. And, the object of focus in the waking state is false, because it is an object, like the object in a dream. Similarly, for the Samantabhadra's
