Because, in dreams, all three are impossible in every way. If you concede that in order to refute the tenets of others, then the example of dreams becomes meaningless, because it is impossible to show that the actual meaning arising from the example, with the characteristic of not being false, is the meaning of falsehood. The meaning of what was said is that the three, object, sense, and consciousness, are established by their own nature, and are impossible in every way even in dreams. It should be said that it is not reasonable to have something other than the form known by the dharma-dhātu (梵文:dharmadhātu,梵文罗马拟音:dharmadhatu,汉语字面意思:法界) in a dream. At that time, that form itself must also be accepted, and it is not contradictory that it exists even in a dream. Therefore, it is clear that that form is accepted by Legden as being established by its own characteristics, so it should be made the reason for its non-existence. If the tenet of the Mind-Only school is that there is no other thing than the form belonging to the outer sense-spheres, By using the dream as an example, it can be refuted. If you concede that the form is established by its own characteristics in order to refute it, then the example of dreams is meaningless for the Madhyamikas in establishing emptiness. That dream is not a matter of falsehood, because it is established by its own characteristics, and what arises from the example, the actual meaning it represents, cannot be established as falsehood, because until the establishment of self-nature is prevented, the sign-dharma (reason) for establishing emptiness does not follow that example. Therefore, it is excellent that you previously answered that everything that appears in dreams in your own system is not established by its own nature. Then, according to your own system, do you or do you not consider the clearly appearing forms in dreams to be forms belonging to the dharma-dhātu? Since there is no sense consciousness in dreams, the things that appear as the five objects appear only to the mind consciousness, so it is impossible to place the five sense-spheres such as the form sense-sphere on it. However, in the face of mere mind, like the clear appearance of a skeleton, it is similar to being destroyed in the dharma-dhātu, and is the form belonging to the dharma-dhātu, and that is also the form of imputation from those five forms. Through this, one should know many similar things. Third, because all three, object, sense, and consciousness, that appear in dreams are untrue, therefore.

In order to establish other phenomena as unreal through the thorough establishment of dreams as unreal, it is said that even in the waking state, all phenomena will be established as being without inherent existence. Just as the objects, faculties, and consciousness of dreams are false, so too, in this waking state, things are false. Therefore, the mind is not inherently existent, and similarly, the objects of the faculties, such as forms, do not exist, and the faculties themselves are not inherently produced. Therefore, the sutra says: 'Like the perception of illusory beings, although they appear, they are not truly there. Like illusions, like dreams, so too, such phenomena are taught by the Sugata.' And it also says: 'The flow of existence is like a dream; in this, there is no birth and no death. Beings, people, and life cannot be found; these phenomena are like bubbles and plantain trees.' And so on, will also be well explained. 'No one is born,' etc., just as 'they are not truly there,' should be combined by making distinctions with respect to what is to be refuted. Those sutras, using the example of dreams, explain that all phenomena are not established as truly existent, which is in accordance with Madhyamaka, but not with Cittamatra, so it is said to be a good explanation. Therefore, even though there is unknowing sleep in this world, for some who have awakened from ordinary sleep different from that, although not born from their own nature, but because of the sleep of ignorance, they are dreaming dreams, so in the face of the object of perception, all three exist. Similarly, for those who have not separated from sleep and have not awakened, as long as that is the case, for them, in that state, the three—objects, faculties, and consciousness—also exist. When one becomes awakened, just as the three of dreams do not exist, when the sleep of delusion is exhausted, that is, completely uprooted, for the Buddhas who directly realize the essence of phenomena, the three do not exist, and therefore there is no consciousness without external objects. That is to say, in the face of the vision of suchness, the three do not appear, but in the face of the vision of all that exists, although the objects, etc., themselves do not appear because of being stained by the habitual tendencies of ignorance, those that appear because the consciousness of other people is stained, appear to them.
