Apart from slight differences, there is no difference in whether the appearing objects are mistaken or not. Just as blue and other things are established by their own nature, and it is impossible for an image to exist in a face, but an image without a face exists. Although it is not established by its own nature, blue and other things must exist. Moreover, just as external objects exist, images are also considered to be the source of form. It will also be said below that images can generate the eye consciousness that perceives them. These principles should also be understood as being like the illusion of seeing horses and cows with the eyes, and echoes in valleys. This is the unique characteristic of this supreme tradition. Secondly, because the meaning of the ultimate truth cannot be established by conventional consciousness, the refutation of other-origination is not done by merely staying within the views of worldly people, but by acknowledging the ultimate truth view of the noble ones and then refuting it in the ultimate sense. When the distinction of ultimate truth is applied to this refutation of other-origination, just as the consciousness of someone with eye disease perceiving hairnets and the like does not harm the consciousness that is not tainted by eye disease from not perceiving hairnets and the like. Similarly, the wisdom of ordinary beings, which is tainted by ignorance, having abandoned stainless wisdom, does not harm the stainless wisdom that is not tainted by ignorance. Therefore, even if other-origination is admitted in the eyes of worldly people, it does not harm the refutation of other-origination in the ultimate sense. Therefore, the opponent should be ridiculed by the supreme wise ones. The third aspect has two parts: explaining conventional truth and explaining ultimate truth. The first aspect has three parts: in whose eyes is the conventional true and in whose eyes is it not; the way in which the conventional alone appears and does not appear to the three types of individuals; and how it transforms into ultimate and conventional relative to ordinary beings and noble ones. The first aspect has two parts: the meaning of the main text and the explanation of the unique characteristics of afflictions. The first is: because it obscures, that is, confuses sentient beings in seeing the nature of things as they are, it is ignorance, that is, ignorance. Ignorance clings to things that are not inherently existent as being inherently existent.

That which obscures the seeing of the nature of how things arise is the conventional truth. This is the truth called conventional truth. It is the recognition of the conventional in the face of whatever is established as conventional, but it is not the recognition of the general conventional. That recognition is also from the Lankavatara Sutra: "All things arise conventionally, in the ultimate sense there is no self-nature, whatever delusion arises in the absence of self-nature, that is called the correct conventional." This means that in the ultimate sense, the mind that mistakes the absence of self-nature for the presence of self-nature is said to be the conventional. That conventional is also a obscuration by adding the word "conventional" to the obscuration. What does it obscure? As it says, "It is called the correct conventional," it obscures the true meaning, so it is said to be the conventional or the obscuration. Among the two, right and wrong, it does not show the correct conventional. The conventional shown by the first line and the conventional shown by the last two lines should not be confused. The first is the conventional in which one accepts the arising of things, etc. The latter is the conventional of clinging to reality, in the face of which things are true, because of that. By the power of that conventional clinging to reality, whatever is blue, etc., although there is no self-nature, the falsehood that is made to appear there appears as true to sentient beings, which is true in the face of the conventional of the world's perversion mentioned earlier, so the Able One said it is the truth of the world's conventional truth. The way of speaking is as mentioned in the previous sutra. Whatever is made false by untrue thoughts in the face of any third person is not true in the face of that conventional, so it is called merely conventional. A little bit of dependent arising images and echoes of rocks, etc., although false, appear to those who have ignorance. A little bit of blue and other forms, mind, feelings, etc., appear to be true. The nature of how things are does not appear to those who have ignorance in any way. Therefore, that self-nature and whatever is also false in the conventional is not the conventional truth. The meaning of what is said is explained briefly.
