If one is angry with a Bodhisattva because one is not (a Bodhisattva), then a thousand kalpas will appear. The second and third, and destroying the roots of virtue based on the difference between the superior and inferior of the second object, should also be examined based on the scriptures. From "three thousand" to "will not speak," it means that a Bodhisattva is angry in mind with a non-Bodhisattva, verbally abuses, and physically beats. This shows that causing harm to a Bodhisattva and injuring a Bodhisattva are different. Therefore, for such a situation, it should be known that there is no need to put on armor from the beginning. If a Bodhisattva merely generates hatred in his mind towards another Bodhisattva, without even expressing it in body and speech, then it is shown that however many times that thought is generated, one must put on armor from the beginning in that many kalpas. Such an object refers to a Bodhisattva who has received a prophecy, and the basis refers to one who has not received a prophecy. As it says in the Compendium: "If a Bodhisattva who has not received a prophecy, is angry with one who has received a prophecy, and starts a dispute, then however many moments of anger there are, in that many kalpas one must put on armor from the beginning." Therefore, it is said. Putting on armor from the beginning is like, for example, a Bodhisattva who is on the great accumulation path, and who can quickly enter the path of preparation, if he is angry with one who has received a prophecy, then in that many kalpas as the number of angry thoughts, he will not be able to enter the path of preparation, but must study the path from the beginning. Regarding this, the Bodhicaryāvatāra says: "If one has such, a prince, a benefactor, generates an evil thought, as many evil thoughts as are generated, in that many kalpas he will dwell in hell, thus the Buddha said." It means that however many thoughts of anger are generated towards a Bodhisattva, one will dwell in hell for that many kalpas. Moreover, there is also the fault of destroying the roots of virtue accumulated over many kalpas. If one who has not received a prophecy is angry with one who has received a prophecy, then it is the same as what was just said about dwelling in hell. There are these two: needing to put on armor from the beginning for that many kalpas. As it is said in the Condensed Collection of All Dharmas, after the sin of abandoning the Dharma occurs, if one confesses the sin three times a day for seven years, although the fully ripened result can be purified, even if one quickly obtains patience, it will still take ten kalpas. Similarly, confessing from many doors

If one is lazy, even walking slowly will not yield any results, but experiencing the ripening results will purify one, so one should strive. The second case is that even if both the object and the basis are not Bodhisattvas, anger will destroy the roots of virtue. It is quoted from the Abhidharmasamuccaya of the Sarvastivada school: Monks, monks prostrate with all their limbs to the stupa of hair and nails, observe the mind and the interval in between. Venerable ones, it is like that. Monks, how far below the place where this monk presses down, eighty-four thousand yojanas, until reaching the golden wheel, there are as many grains of sand as there are, this monk will enjoy as many thousandfold Chakravartin kingdoms. From there, the venerable Upagupta folded his palms towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, you said that the roots of virtue of a monk are so great, Blessed One, where are these roots of virtue weakened, completely purified, and completely exhausted? Upagupta, I have not seen anything that causes harm like destroying the conduct of a pure life. Upagupta, these great roots of virtue will be weakened, completely purified, and completely exhausted. Upagupta, therefore, even in the slightest opposition, do not harm with the mind, let alone the body with consciousness? As it is said. Among them, weakening means generating very abundant roots of virtue, but only making small efforts, or accumulating for a long time, but only making short efforts, just like not completely destroying the fruit, but only slightly exhausting it. Purification means medium exhaustion. Exhaustion means manifesting as huge exhaustion. Also, as the Sutra of Moonlight is quoted in the Sutrasamuccaya: Whoever harbors harmful intentions towards each other, morality and hearing cannot protect him, meditation and solitary places cannot protect him, giving and offering to the Buddha cannot protect him. The term "each other" here refers to fellow practitioners of pure conduct. The six, such as morality, cannot protect because anger destroys the roots of virtue and cannot be stopped. The roots of virtue to be destroyed have been clarified in the previous sutras.
