For sentient beings, what is the fundamental cause that can prevent all undesirable similar karmic results and completely eliminate karmic obstacles? It is that, compared to retaliating by harming others and the suffering felt inwardly due to anger, there is an even more severe suffering. That is, again leading the seed of suffering, which is the root of suffering, towards oneself, which is unreasonable. Therefore, just as a doctor, in order to cure a disease, must endure the pain of being cut with a sharp lancet, so too, in order to prevent endless future suffering, one should very much endure the small suffering of the present. The third part is divided into two points: the meaning of the main text and the incidental meaning. The first point is: impatience is not only the cause of producing vast undesirable karmic results, but also the cause of exhausting the accumulation of merit that has been accumulated for a long time. As the scripture says: Because a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, whether the other party is definitely a Bodhisattva or not, or even if it is determined to be a Bodhisattva, but due to the heavy habits of afflictions, exaggerates the real or unreal faults of the princes and Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind of Bodhicitta, even if only a moment of anger arises, it will destroy the accumulation of merit accumulated for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, that is, the roots of virtue produced by the perfections of generosity and discipline mentioned earlier. What's more, what if anger arises towards a non-Bodhisattva, what about anger arising towards a Bodhisattva? Therefore, just as the amount of water in the great ocean cannot be measured with a scale, so too, the limit of the maturation of anger towards a Bodhisattva cannot be determined. Therefore, if this is the case, then the sin of producing undesirable results and harming the roots of virtue, there is no sin more serious than the anger of impatience. Exaggerating real faults is exaggerating small things into big things. This is what is said in the commentary. The statement about destroying the roots of virtue also comes from the Manjushri Play Sutra: Manjushri, anger, anger, can destroy the roots of virtue accumulated for hundreds of thousands of kalpas.

Ra. It is called anger. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. Although it is not clear in the sutra whether both the object and the basis of anger are Bodhisattvas, the commentary states that both the object and the basis belong to the category of Bodhisattvas. Before quoting the Abhisamayalankara Sutra, the Maitreya Simhanada Sutra is quoted from the Sutra Collection, which says: "If a Bodhisattva scolds, whips, clubs, or punches all sentient beings belonging to the three thousand great thousand worlds, the Bodhisattva will not be harmed thereby. If a Bodhisattva generates even a trace of hatred, contempt, or aversion towards another Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva will be harmed thereby. Why? If he has not completely abandoned omniscience, the Bodhisattva must re-armor himself for as many eons as he generates hatred, contempt, or aversion towards another Bodhisattva." Therefore, it can be seen that the author is writing based on the statement that both the object and the basis are Bodhisattvas. Then, how should it be explained that the teacher Hero and Shantideva said: "A thousand eons of accumulated giving, offering to the Sugatas, etc., all virtuous deeds, are destroyed by a single anger." How can a single anger destroy the merit accumulated over a thousand eons? Some commentaries on the Bodhisattvacaryavatara say: "The merit accumulated over millions of eons is destroyed by hatred towards sentient beings, which is hard to believe." Although these two teachers did not clearly state the object and the basis, the object of anger that destroys the root of virtue accumulated over a hundred or a thousand eons must be a Bodhisattva. Judging from the statement that "the basis of anger is a great Bodhisattva," it seems that the Bodhisattva of the object is more powerful than the Bodhisattva of the basis. Therefore, the basis of anger is definitely an ordinary Bodhisattva, while the object is divided into two cases: realized and unrealized. In this way, there are three situations: a Bodhisattva with strong power against weak power, weak power against strong power, and mutual anger when the object and the basis have equal power. The first case requires a hundred eons, Bodhisattva.
