This steals away the discernment that thinks, "This is what should be done, and this is not what should be done," and, due to unbearable anger, contemplating the faults of quickly falling into bad destinies after death, one should by all means not give anger a chance, thereby preventing anger. The second part has two points: contemplating the many virtues of patience, and summarizing the meaning and exhorting to cultivate patience. The first point is: If the faults of impatience are those, then what are the virtues of patience, which are the opposite of that? Cultivating patience produces the virtues that are the opposite of the faults of anger mentioned earlier. That is, cultivating patience obtains a beautiful form, is cherished and loved by noble people, and becomes skilled in understanding what is reasonable, i.e., reason, and what is unreasonable, i.e., non-reason. Thinking of obtaining rebirth in the realms of gods and humans after death, and the exhaustion of sins accumulated by anger, etc., one should generate the power of patience. The second point is: As mentioned earlier, ordinary people understand the faults and sins of anger, and bodhisattvas understand the benefits of patience, thereby abandoning impatience, one should always cultivate the patience praised by the noble ones. The third point is: Distinguishing the perfection of patience into two types, those that do not transcend the world and those that do, is explained by the four lines beginning with "Perfectly Awakened One," and can be understood from what was said earlier. The fourth point is: On the third ground, that bodhisattva's pure perfection of patience, as well as the four dhyanas beginning with the first dhyana, and by extension, boundless space, boundless consciousness, the place of nothingness, and the peak of existence, i.e., the four formless absorptions, as well as the four immeasurables of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, and the five superknowledges of magical power, divine ear, knowing the minds of others, recollection of past lives, and divine eye, will be obtained purely. Even entering and leaving these dhyanas and formless states, one sees that the cause of enlightenment is perfected, therefore one deliberately contemplates it and is born by the power of aspiration, not by the power of worldly dhyanas and formless states.

I will not be reborn. Although this can be obtained from the first ground as well, because on this ground one obtains a samadhi that is superior to all previous samadhis, there is a great doubt as to whether one will be reborn due to its power, hence it is said. On this ground, one obtains the exhaustion of desire and hatred. The word "and" means "also," in order to include the exhaustion of ignorance, which was not mentioned. The meaning of exhaustion is not complete exhaustion, because the Sutra itself says that all four bonds of desire, form, existence, and ignorance are weakened. According to the Bodhisattva-bhumi's intention, the meaning of these is that by the power of worldly samadhi and formless samadhi, one is separated from attachment to desire, form, and formless realms, which is the previously mentioned abandonment of manifestation. Therefore, it appears that it is said to be weakened. It also appears that the bonds are spoken of from the Abhidharma. Here, the Sutra says, "The bonds that have become its view have been abandoned from before." Some interpret the meaning of this as the last three views being abandoned on the path of seeing, but the five conceptually imputed views should be abandoned on the first ground. The Bodhisattva-bhumi says, "That is the ground practiced by the first ancestors, because from the very nature of reality, faith arises, therefore the bonds that have become views are abandoned." After that, the Sutra says, "Wrong desire, hatred, and ignorance, which are not to be diminished in hundreds of millions of eons, are abandoned on this ground," which refers to abandoning the seeds. That also refers to the six major and minor innate afflictions to be abandoned from the second to the seventh grounds by the path of cultivation, which are to be abandoned on this ground. Although the commentator did not clearly state that conceptually imputed afflictions are abandoned from the first ground and innate afflictions are abandoned from the second ground, until the eighth ground is attained, the seeds of all afflictions are not exhausted, and grasping at reality is established as an affliction, and until grasping at reality is exhausted, the view of the perishable aggregate will not be exhausted, and the Garland of Jewels also says that the three bonds are abandoned on the first ground, therefore, in general, afflictions should be divided into two, and in particular, the view of the perishable aggregate should be divided into two, which is very clear. For this system of establishing grasping at reality as an affliction, when afflictions are abandoned by the undefiled path, grasping at reality
