The fruits of enjoyment, etc., are shown to ripen in the realms of suffering rather than in the realms of happiness. Therefore, if one desires the fruit of generosity to ripen in the realms of happiness, the giver of generosity, as mentioned before, should maintain moral discipline. Secondly, if one is without moral discipline, the fruit of generosity ripens in the realms of suffering, and in that state, one merely enjoys the fruits of past generosity. Because one is extremely foolish, one does not newly perform acts of generosity or other virtuous deeds. The accumulated wealth, including interest, is completely exhausted because it is used up on the principal. After one has completely enjoyed the fruits of past generosity, that person will no longer have any enjoyment arising. This is like a person who plants few seeds but obtains a great harvest. To obtain more fruit, he plants even more seeds, so the accumulation of fruit increases without ceasing. But if someone, due to foolishness, does not plant any seeds at all and only enjoys what he has, the fruit will not increase without ceasing, just like that. Thirdly, because the foundation of moral discipline is broken, not only is it difficult to obtain a continuous increase in enjoyment, but it is also extremely difficult to escape from the lower realms once one has fallen into them. This shows that when a hero dwells in a harmonious place, he is like someone freed from bonds, completely independent of others, acting freely according to his own wishes. When one dwells in a harmonious place, that is, in the realms of gods and humans, if that person does not prevent himself from falling into the lower realms, it is like a hero being bound and abandoned in a great ravine. Having fallen into the abyss of the lower realms, helplessly controlled by others, who will rescue him from the lower realms he has fallen into? No one will do that. Because it is very rare to perform virtuous deeds in the state of the lower realms, and it is very easy to accumulate negative karma, one must continuously wander in the lower realms. Therefore, it is also said in the Sutra Pitaka: "Even if one out of a hundred people is born in the human realm, they can only accomplish two kinds of fruition." Thus, it is said that it is difficult to obtain a human birth. Therefore, from now on, one must prevent oneself from falling into the lower realms, and one should know that this is done by striving to maintain moral discipline. Fourthly, whoever

Therefore, breaking the precepts leads to many faults, such as falling into evil destinies. The Victorious One (Buddha), who defeated all sins, spoke of generosity in order to prevent the merits of generosity and so on from being wasted. And immediately after that, he spoke of the precepts following generosity, that is, the practice. The reason for this is that the precepts themselves are the basis of all virtues, they are the field. If the merits of generosity and so on increase in that field, then from the cause of generosity and so on, to the result of a good body and enjoyment, the lineage can increase the accumulation of results in an upward and uninterrupted manner, and can be enjoyed for a long time. Otherwise, it cannot be done that way. Therefore, those who give generosity should not only calculate the enjoyment of the fruit of generosity The abundant appearance, but also calculate what body to use to enjoy that enjoyment, and how many lifetimes that enjoyment will appear in. And the method for that is that it is very important to keep the precepts. This is the principle that must be emphasized. Even a beginner Bodhisattva should strive to give generosity as mentioned before. Moreover, that should be done specifically for the benefit of all sentient beings, and for the purpose of attaining Buddhahood. Although it must be so, it is also necessary for the fruit of generosity to ripen into a basis for good destinies in the meantime. Moreover, that must appear in many lifetimes. This is like relying on precepts. Without precepts, there will be no complete favorable conditions for learning the Bodhisattva conduct. Fifth, both the body and basis of good destinies, and the long-term enjoyment of the fruit of generosity, both depend on precepts. Moreover, in order to obtain decisive benefits, precepts are also indispensable. Therefore, in this way, for ordinary people who have not yet entered the path, it is the cause of obtaining higher rebirth; for the Shravakas who arose from the Buddha's teachings; for those who are determined to embark on the path of Pratyekabuddha enlightenment; and for the prince Bodhisattvas, the cause of the decisive benefit of enlightenment is none other than precepts. The meaning of this is not to say that precepts are the only cause, thereby negating other causes.
