The sutra states that this is the perfection of relying. Regarding the above explanations, the method of practicing from now on is: to cultivate by taking the special ways of giving the body to others and generating joy as objects of faith, and other material donations should rely on the fields of merit above and below, and be carried out continuously by giving water, etc., and at that time, it should be grasped by the wisdom that does not cling to the three wheels. That is, one should repeatedly contemplate giving one's body, possessions, and three roots of virtue for the benefit of sentient beings, and even if one does not give them away, these things must be abandoned because they are destroyed. In the same degree of giving, it is best to give in advance by one's own intention. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: 'Body and likewise possessions, And all virtues of the three times, For the sake of accomplishing the benefit of all sentient beings, Give without stinginess.' It also says: 'By giving up everything, one attains nirvana, My mind desires to end suffering, Giving everything together, Giving to sentient beings is supreme.' One should act accordingly. Third, this is, as mentioned earlier, called the Joyful Ground, with the specialty of stainless wisdom, it is explained by briefly describing the qualities of that ground: This Joyful Ground exists like a jewel, crystal, and the halo of the moon. It has three similarities with the moon. First, being in a high position: Because, as mentioned earlier, the son of the Victorious One who has obtained the qualities of the ground abides in the mind of the first ground, therefore it is in a high position, just as the moon is in a high position in the sky. The first ground is a part of the mind of that Bodhisattva, so it is called abiding, for example, the eye abides on the head. The heart of the ultimate meaning of the first ground is the mind of its supreme, ultimate support in which it abides, because it has obtained the beauty of the light of wisdom, just as the moon illuminates its sky with white light. Furthermore, the first ground abides because it has overcome its opposing aspects, the objects to be abandoned by the path of seeing, just as the moon abides after dispelling all the thick darkness. In the extensive commentary on Entering the Middle Way, the Clear Meaning, this is an explanation of the first arising of the mind of ultimate truth. ༈ Two

Secondly, explaining the stainless ground has five (aspects). In this ground, it is taught that the discipline is completely pure, the praise of discipline is taught, the examples of non-contradiction and non-mixture with discipline are taught, the classification of the pāramitā of discipline is taught, and it concludes by stating the qualities of the ground. The first (aspect) has four (parts). In this ground, the perfection of discipline is taught, relying on that, the complete purification of qualities is taught, the discipline surpassing the first ground is taught, and other causes for the complete purification of discipline are taught. The first (part) is: That which abides in the second ground, because it possesses the perfection of extremely excellent discipline and the purity of qualities, not only when awake, but even in dreams, it has abandoned the defilement of lax discipline, that is, it is not tainted by it. This does not refer to the lax discipline of root downfalls and natural transgressions, but to the abandonment of the defilement of lax discipline of all violations of precepts. Therefore, not accepting the afflictions that give rise to all lax discipline, and not producing sinful actions that violate precepts, because for the occurrence of downfalls that violate precepts, coolness is obtained by extinguishing the fire of regret, therefore it is discipline, because its Sanskrit is śīla (Sanskrit Devanagari: शील, Sanskrit Romanization: śīla, Chinese literal meaning: discipline), and śīti (Tibetan: ཤཱི་ཏི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: śīti, Sanskrit Romanization: śīti, Chinese literal meaning: coolness) means coolness, and lāti (Tibetan: ལ་ཏི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: lāti, Sanskrit Romanization: lāti, Chinese literal meaning: obtaining) means obtaining. Or, because it is the cause of happiness, it should be relied upon by the noble ones, therefore it is discipline, this is also an etymological explanation. If considered from the aspect of essence, it is characterized by the seven abandonments of abandoning the seven lax behaviors of body and speech, and not being attached, being without greed, being without malice of hatred, and having the correct view free from wrong views. If considered from the aspect of the instigator and possessor that instigates the seven abandonments, then it is the ten abandonments of abandoning the ten black paths of action, that is, the abandonments of the white paths of action. The second (part) is: If asked, how does that Bodhisattva purify qualities through the perfection of discipline? The activities of body, speech, and mind, that is, the three behaviors, at all times, whether awake or dreaming, are purified even of subtle downfalls, so that the noble one, that is, the ten excellent paths of action, are accumulated completely without deficiency, that is, the first three of the virtuous paths of action are by body, the middle four are by speech, and the last three
