When determining the object to be measured by the power of consciousness, since valid cognition is also consciousness, determining the object to be measured by it also becomes determined by the power of consciousness. In this way, even according to the proponents of realism, the establishment of truth becomes impossible. Thinking in this way, the mixing of these two aspects becomes confusing, because determining the object to be measured by valid cognition means that valid cognition recognizes the way the two objects to be measured exist. Therefore, this is completely different from what was said before. Thus, the illusion-like appearance, according to the Yogacara-Madhyamaka, is self-cognizant direct perception; according to the Svatantrika who accepts external objects, it is established by the root consciousness direct perception based on a basis like earth or space. If it does not exist as it appears, if it existed as it appears, then the un-deceived eye should be able to see it. But, because the eye does not see it, it is negated by reasons such as this, then the aggregation of appearance and emptiness is established. In this way, for the deluded mind of a conventionalist who has not entered a philosophical system, falsehood is established. Therefore, no matter how subtle or coarse, no kind of intellect can establish the wisdom that is both appearance and emptiness. Even if it is the establishment of truth according to the self-complacent mind of a conventionalist, if appearance exists, then emptiness will not exist; if emptiness exists, then appearance will not exist. If the two are aggregated, then it is only falsehood according to self-complacency. Thirdly, just as a magician uses deception, sentient beings perceive these internal and external phenomena as truly existing. This is not established by the power of appearance to the mind, but rather they grasp that these phenomena have some way of existing, which is the innate grasping at truth that has existed since beginningless time. This establishment by the Svatantrika is very coarse compared to the mind that grasps the object to be negated by the Prasangika, therefore the subtle innate grasping at truth is not like that. Once the establishment of truth grasped by this grasping at truth is negated by reason, then like a magician, for internal and external phenomena, they no longer grasp that there is a way of existing that is not established by the internal mind, but only know that it is existence established by the mind. Moreover, they believe that things established by the mind that are not harmed by valid cognition exist conventionally, but not everything established by the mind exists conventionally. A sprout arises from a seed...

Even if it is established by the power of the mind, it is not contradictory that the sprout itself grows from the seed. This is like the basis of emanation appearing as horses and cows. Therefore, one should understand everything that exists in conventional terms. The nature of phenomena is also established as existing by the power of the mind in which it appears. Therefore, there is nothing that does not pervade establishing its existence in conventional terms. Therefore, just as illusion appears as horses and cows, but it is empty of them, similarly, all things like vases appear as vases, but they are empty of vases. It is definitely not the meaning of combining illusion and other phenomena as examples and meanings. If it were, then it would be impossible for that phenomenon to exist, and the combination of example and meaning would only appear as such, but would not be real. When the non-conceptual wisdom of equipoise arises, all dualistic appearances are pacified, just like an uncorrupted eye has neither the appearance nor the attachment to illusion. Since the Svātantrika school will not show the uncommon ways of refuting with reasoning below, here, to briefly and easily explain how all phenomena appear like illusions according to that system: If phenomena are divided into existent and non-existent, first, when discussing existent phenomena, if existent phenomena are divided into form and formless, for form, as explained elsewhere, one should refute the partless of directions such as east, and the partless of past and future times for consciousness, and establish that existent phenomena are pervaded by parts. Then, if the part and the whole are different in essence, they will become unrelated, so refute that and show that they are one in essence. At that time, how do you trust it? Although the way of being is one in essence, it is undeniable that the way of appearing is different in essence. Therefore, it should be determined that appearing there like an illusion and being empty of it are both assembled. Then, such a thing, the false way of abiding that is established by the power of appearing in the mind, has no contradiction, but if the basis is not a way of abiding that is established by the power of appearing in the mind, then it is absolutely unreasonable, because as mentioned earlier, it is impossible for truly established things to have a situation where the way of being and the way of appearing do not match. Because if it is truly established, it must abandon falsehood and abide in all ways, and the mind that appears as different in essence must be unerring, so it harms the oneness of essence. If that is established, then things that do not exist are true.
