That which can be definitely shown by signs is: Even for an ordinary person at the very beginning, when hearing the non-inverted words of emptiness, from the moment of hearing that, joy repeatedly arises in the mind towards those words, and tears from that joy moisten the eyes, and the hairs of the body stand on end, whatever arises from these, has the seed of wisdom of the non-conceptual wisdom of the fully enlightened Buddha, which is called the seed of realizing emptiness. Only in this way is that person a vessel capable of being closely shown by a skillful teacher. The truth of the ultimate meaning, which has characteristics, should be taught to that person. This is hearing the non-inverted words of emptiness, and the combination of not understanding it, the signs of the body appear, which is a non-mistaken sign. If the meaning is not understood, or even if understood, those signs do not arise, although it cannot be determined for the time being as a vessel for the profound, if one does not transgress the instructions of the holy lama, then one can become a vessel for newly placing many potentials for realizing emptiness. Thirdly, for the listener mentioned earlier, teaching emptiness will not be without result. What is the reason for that? Like this, the listener will not only not have the meaning born from the inverted clinging to emptiness, but also after hearing the view of emptiness, the qualities of the fruit will also arise. How does it arise? The vessel thinks that hearing the view of emptiness is like finding a treasure. In order to prevent that view from declining in other lifetimes as well, one will always take and abide in the precepts correctly. That is also because one thinks: If I fall into the lower realms due to the cause of breaking the precepts, the view of emptiness will naturally be cut off, therefore one takes the precepts and protects them without letting them decline. For the one who has broken the precepts, it is not necessary to have taken the precepts beforehand, the natural transgression that is contrary to the precepts is also a breaking of the precepts. Even if I guard the precepts and am born in the happy realms, if I become poor and lack the necessities of life such as food, drink, medicine, and clothing, I will diligently seek those, and the emptiness of

Thinking that listening to these views and meditating on their meaning, etc., will be interrupted, so one will give alms to the fields above and below as previously stated. The view of emptiness, when grasped by the great compassion mentioned earlier, leads to Buddhahood itself; otherwise, it is not so. Therefore, one should cultivate the habit of relying on great compassion as the root. I think that going to the lower realms, destroying virtue, and obtaining an extremely ugly appearance will not please the noble ones, so I will cultivate patience. Without repeatedly dedicating the precepts, etc., to omniscience, they will not become the cause of attaining Buddhahood, and the immeasurable fruits of body and enjoyment, etc., will not arise continuously. Therefore, in order to liberate beings from samsara, one should completely dedicate the merit of precepts, etc., to Bodhi. Seeing that other beings such as Hearers and Solitary Realizers, other than Bodhisattvas, cannot explain profound dependent origination like Bodhisattvas, one should be very respectful to the perfect Bodhisattvas. For a Mahayanist who has grasped the essential point of the view of emptiness, after such pure understandings as previously stated arise, one will become very respectful in accomplishing the vast aspects. This is a very praiseworthy state, as stated in the Commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment: "Knowing that all dharmas are empty, and yet believing in karma and its fruits, this is the rarest of the rare, the most marvelous of the marvelous." Therefore, one should avoid the two faults of disbelieving and unwillingly accepting unsuitable vessels, and of understanding that all cause and effect are blocked by reasoning, even though there seems to be belief. Only by relying on the view of emptiness, which is without inherent existence, can one realize that all actions are most reasonable. If it is not so, but is done in the manner of having attained the view, then all the classifications of karma and its effects, such as precepts, etc., become as meaningless as counting the lines on a rabbit's horn. Such a situation is for those who have not understood the definitive meaning, but it is not necessary for those who have understood the definitive meaning, because they hold that all of these are made by conceptual thought, and all conceptual thoughts are grasping at the sign of clinging to truth. Like the Chinese Hwashang.
