One should rely on this, and not on others. Because even if those people have heard the scriptures that explain emptiness, they have the thought of having wrong views about emptiness, therefore they will have great non-benefit. The way to become a great non-benefit is: sometimes the unwise abandon emptiness and go to bad destinies. Sometimes the meaning of emptiness, which is without self-nature, is wrongly understood as these dharmas do not exist, are not existent, and thus first generate the wrong view of slandering all cause-and-effect things, and then do not abandon it, but make it grow more and more. The Four Hundred says: "If emptiness is seen wrongly, the small wisdom will be destroyed, just like a snake is wrongly held, and the mantra is not effective." In the explanation of the Clear Words, it is also said that in order not to fall into the extreme of slandering the conventional truth, it is necessary not to harm the karmic results that are like images; in order not to fall into the extreme of superimposing on the ultimate truth, it is necessary to see the karmic results only on things that are without self-nature. If it is contrary to these two, it is said that one will fall into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. If one thinks that the aggregates do not exist, then it is said to be a wrong view. Therefore, although there is a difference in words between "does not exist" and "is not existent", even if one carefully examines it, there is no difference in the appearance of non-existence. The Four Hundred says: "One goes only to bad destinies, not to the peace of ordinary people." In the commentary, it is said that anyone who is not superior who hears the Dharma of no-self, because of abandoning and clinging to it in a perverse way, will only go to bad destinies. Here it is said that both will go to bad destinies, and clinging to it in a perverse way means clinging to the meaning of emptiness as the meaning of non-existence. Therefore, without the power of intelligence to distinguish the very subtle meaning, for those arrogant people who appear to be existent, merely pretending to have strong faith in the words of profound meaning that do not match their own faculties will actually lead to great non-benefit, so these places should be studied in depth. Also, how can one be sure that emptiness should be taught to this person, and not to that person?
