Furthermore, if there is an author and an agent, since the aggregates are not exhausted, there will be no Nirvana to be realized. Therefore, this sutra cannot be expounded. According to us, the "cessation" here is not cessation by an antidote, but it is called "cessation" because it has been exhausted from the beginning. It is sufficient to explain it in this way, so it is possible to explain the meaning of the sutra well. Therefore, the sutra shows such "cessation," and the cessation of suffering, the cessation of Nirvana, and the cessation of no self-nature, these two have the same meaning, but since it seems that the Buddha's words are not understood, it is explained in detail below. In the Root Wisdom Treatise, it is also said: "The Blessed One knows existence and non-existence, and in the Katyayana Sutra, he refutes the two extreme views of existence and non-existence." This also shows that the Hinayana sutras also speak of refuting the two extremes. This sutra seems to appear in the Vinaya-ksudraka. These are only mentioned briefly, and there are many contents not quoted here in the Jewel Garland, as well as the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning and the Collection of Praises. The third part is divided into two points: refuting the arguments mentioned in the explanation, and refuting the arguments not mentioned therein. The first point is: In the explanation, it is said: "If the Dharma-no-self is also shown in the Hearer Vehicle, then the showing of the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless." It should also be known that this view is contrary to reason and scripture. The one who speaks of this prior view is the teacher Lekden. Buddhapalita said in the commentary on the seventh chapter that the meaning of the statement in the Hinayana sutras that all dharmas are selfless is that dharmas have no self-nature. But in the Lamp of Wisdom, it is refuted that if that is the case, the teaching of the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless. In this regard, in general, is it said that the teaching of the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless, or is it said that the teaching of Dharma-no-self in the Great Vehicle becomes meaningless? If it is the former, if that inference has pervasiveness, then the teaching of the Great Vehicle will only show Dharma-no-self, but this is not the case, because in the Great Vehicle there are also the various grounds of Bodhisattvas, and the practice of Paramitas such as generosity, and great aspirations and dedications, and great compassion, etc.

And, because (both Lesser and Greater Vehicles) demonstrate the greatness of the two accumulations, the inconceivable power of ordinary Bodhisattvas, and the Dharma-nature that is unimaginable by Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. As it is said in the Ratnāvalī: "From the Śrāvakayāna, the aspiration and the complete dedication of the Bodhisattva's conduct are not explained, how can one become a Bodhisattva? The meaning of abiding in the Bodhisattva's conduct is not taught in the Sūtra Pitaka, but only in the Mahāyāna, therefore the wise should uphold it." This (the quotation from the Ratnāvalī) is said to dispel the wrong view that one can attain Buddhahood merely through the path taught in the Lesser Vehicle's canon, and that other Mahāyāna is not needed. If according to your statement, the Dharma-non-self is taught in the Mahāyāna, therefore what is said in the Lesser Vehicle's scriptures is not permissible, you should say so. But you did not say so, but said other broad aspects. If it is according to the second statement, then this is also not pervasive, because in the Śrāvakapitaka, only a brief summary of the Dharma-non-self is shown, while in the Mahāyāna, the Dharma-non-self is shown in great detail from many aspects. This is also the view of the noble ones. As it is said in the Praise Beyond the World: "Without realizing the signless reality, you say there is no liberation, therefore you fully reveal this Dharma-nature in the Mahāyāna." The first two lines of this say that without realizing the true nature of signlessness, afflictions cannot be extinguished, and therefore liberation cannot be attained. 'Your' etc. say that the Dharma-non-self of signlessness is fully revealed in the Mahāyāna. From this it is known that the Dharma-non-self is not fully revealed in the Lesser Vehicle. Then, how does the word 'therefore' become the reason for the full revelation? Because without realizing the signless, one cannot attain the liberation of extinguishing afflictions, therefore, the Dharma-non-self must also be shown in the Śrāvakayāna, and there must also be a difference between the Lesser and Greater Vehicles in this, and that is why it is necessary to say so. These (arguments) show that the fault of refutation and the rebuttal arising from it are like an uncertain pervasive refutation, which is contrary to reason. Contradicting the scriptures has been said many times before. Then, the canons of the Lesser and Greater Vehicles
