It is like inferring fire from smoke, etc. This shows that there is no stain of pervasive clinging when giving away body, life, and possessions. Even if given away in this way, the continuum will not transform into another form, but will remain in a stable state. The second part has two points: giving brings happiness in samsara, and giving shows how to attain the happiness of nirvana. The first point is: All these beings clearly desire to obtain the happiness of eliminating the suffering of hunger, thirst, disease, heat, cold, etc. And the happiness of humans and non-humans also depends on the enjoyment of desired objects, such as food, medical equipment, clothing, and housing, etc., otherwise it cannot arise. Furthermore, it must be understood that these enjoyments arise from the accumulation of merit from past giving. Therefore, the Sugata (Shakyamuni Buddha), who knows the minds of all beings, first spoke of giving, because it is also easy to enter this method. If it is thought that obtaining perfect enjoyment from giving requires the giver to meet certain conditions, this is not necessary. Just like a merchant, from giving away very little wealth, hopes to obtain a vast accumulation of wealth as a result, even more than a beggar who hopes to obtain enjoyment, he hopes to obtain great enjoyment. Therefore, he respects the act of giving. Only like Bodhisattvas, who do not seek the fruit of giving due to the urging of compassion, and do not obviously increase the joy of giving, such givers lack compassion. Not only that, they will become those who harbor extremely harsh minds towards sentient beings, only caring about their own happiness in this life. For those who primarily aim for happiness in this life, they ignore the faults of not giving away enjoyment and clinging to it, only focusing on the merit of expecting the ripening of karma, thereby obtaining a lazy giving. Through this method, excellent enjoyment is fully produced, becoming the proximate cause of pacifying the suffering of hunger, thirst, etc. The second point is: Some people, due to a lack of compassion, only focus on the happiness of eliminating their own suffering, therefore, they respect the act of giving, which is only showing nobility in front of the giver (patron).

Therefore, it is said. When giving alms, when will one quickly meet the noble ones? Then, that holy one taught the Dharma, knowing that there is no merit in samsara, and realizing the uncontaminated noble path, abandoning ignorance. From beginningless time, the cycle of birth and death has been completely cut off. With the cause of meeting the holy one, one will go to the peaceful nirvana of the Hearer or Solitary Realizer. Third, in four parts: Showing the unique benefits of the bodhisattva's giving; mainly showing the words of giving to both supports; showing what kind of joy the bodhisattva obtains when giving; showing whether there is suffering when the bodhisattva gives his body. First, those who are not bodhisattvas, by giving, satisfy the beggars, and not at the same time, that is, immediately after that, they necessarily enjoy the happiness of the fruit of giving. Therefore, since they do not directly see the fruit of giving, they may not engage in giving. However, the bodhisattvas who have vowed to ultimately benefit and immediately bring happiness to all beings, by giving, not long after seeing the beggars satisfied, immediately obtain the supreme joy of the fruit of giving and enjoy the fruit of giving, so they are happy to give at all times. Second, because, as mentioned before, the bodhisattva whose nature is love, and those whose nature is not love, bring about the happiness of higher realms and definite goodness through giving, therefore, the words of giving are the main thing, that is, extremely important. The Suhrllekha (Letter to a Friend) also says: Knowing that enjoyment is like a moving cloud, without essence, To monks, Brahmins, the poor, and friends, Give alms properly to them, in the next life, other than giving, There is no better friend. So it is said. Third, for what reason do bodhisattvas respect giving? If the beggars are satisfied with enjoyment, what kind of difference in joy arises in the bodhisattva? How to beg

When thinking about the meaning of hearing the sound of someone saying "Give something," one thinks, "These people are begging from me." However, for the Bodhisattva, joy arises in the mind again and again. This is because the Buddhas, the Arhats, have entered the state of peaceful Nirvana. Isn't it to generate happiness? By giving away all inner and outer things, the beggars are satisfied. What need is there to mention generating happiness that surpasses peace and bliss? There is no need to say, it is not needed. When the mind is captivated by peace and bliss, one becomes distracted from benefiting others. But the joy of the Bodhisattva, as mentioned before, precisely because the mind is captivated by joy, one becomes even more diligent in benefiting others, so they are different. Fourth, if someone asks, since it is said that giving generates excellent joy, then for the Bodhisattva who gives away inner and outer things, will physical suffering not arise? If one asks with the great being having attained a bhumi in mind, then just like cutting inanimate objects, there is no physical suffering. As it is said in the Samadhi of the Noble Akashagarbha: "For example, there is a great grove of Sala trees. Someone comes there and cuts down one Sala tree. The remaining Sala trees think, 'This one has been cut, we have not been cut.' They do not have attachment or anger towards it. There is no conception or discrimination. The patience of the Bodhisattva is like that, it is completely pure, supreme, and equal to space." It is like what is said in the sutra. Also in the Ratnavali it says: "For him there is no physical suffering, how could there be mental suffering? He suffers for the world with compassion, and he abides long by that very thing." This also refers to those who have attained a bhumi. Again, if one asks with the assumption of not having attained the Joyful Ground, where there is no clinging attachment to body and possessions, then when conditions contrary to the existence of the body befall one's own body, physical suffering will undoubtedly arise. But even at that time, that suffering remains the very cause for engaging even more in the benefit of sentient beings. Like this, Bodhisattvas Pages 1 to 100
