The co-emergent and the co-arisen are similar. The inability to abandon the seed is also the same for both. Here, it seems that the intentions of Chandrakirti and Shantideva are not understood to be the same. If one does not realize that the aggregates are without inherent existence, one will not realize that the person is without inherent existence. In that case, not realizing the selflessness of the person is like establishing the emptiness of phenomena such as the aggregates as the selflessness of phenomena. The selflessness of the person must also be established as the selflessness of the person, because all the reasons are the same. In that case, grasping the person as real must be established as the self-grasping of the person. Unless it is destroyed, all afflictions will not cease, and grasping the person and phenomena as real must be established as afflictions. This must also be established in the system of Shantideva. The second has two parts: citing the scriptural authority of the Mahayana sutras, and citing the scriptural authority of the treatises and the Hinayana sutras. First, quoting from the commentary on the *Sublime Wisdom of the Question of Sagacious Thought Sutra*: For example, when a person is at a magician's performance, he sees a woman conjured up by the magician and develops a mind of desire. Because of desire, his mind is disturbed, and he feels ashamed and afraid. He gets up from his seat and leaves. Even after leaving, he still contemplates the impurity of that woman, and contemplates impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Son of good family, what do you think? Is that person practicing correctly or incorrectly? He replied: World-Honored One, the effort of that person who contemplates the impurity of a non-existent woman, and contemplates impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, is incorrect. The World-Honored One said: Son of good family, here some monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen contemplate the impurity of phenomena that have not arisen and have not appeared, and contemplate impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Those should also be regarded in the same way. Do not say that I am practicing the path for those foolish people. Those are called those who practice incorrectly. It is said very clearly. Regarding the illusory woman and women

After grasping, one contemplates impermanence, etc., on it. And grasping the aggregates as true, then contemplating impermanence, etc., on the aggregates as before, combining the two as metaphor and meaning. There is also taking the true aggregates as the object and then contemplating impermanence, etc. That is because it is merely a wrong view that is mistaken about the object of attachment. Although it is not established by valid cognition, in the continuum where the view that refutes the object of true grasping has not been found, focusing on the aggregates without distinguishing between truth and falsehood, and the impermanence, etc., that do not distinguish between the two, many nominal valid cognitions will arise. When meditating, if one meditates on that meaning, the path will arise in the continuum as previously explained. Furthermore, from the clear citation of the example of the Noble Samadhi Sutra, it is said: "Manjushri, because sentient beings do not see the truths of the noble ones as they truly are, those whose minds are inverted by the four inversions will not transcend this unreal samsara." After saying this, Manjushri asked: "Bhagavan, by relying on what close object do sentient beings not transcend samsara? Please explain." The Buddha said that because the four truths are not known as they truly are, one cannot be liberated from samsara. To this, the Venerable One asked, relying on what object, and in what way contemplating, is it said that one cannot be liberated from samsara? The answer to the request was: "I will be liberated from samsara, and attain nirvana." Thinking in this way with an attitude of grasping at truth, when meditating on impermanence, etc., one will think, "I have known suffering, I have abandoned the origin, I have realized cessation, I have cultivated the path," and then the thought "I have become an Arhat" will arise. Just as previously said, temporarily abandoning the manifest afflictions, the thought "all outflows are exhausted" will arise. When death comes, seeing oneself taking rebirth again, due to the fault of doubting the Buddha, one will fall into the great hell. This is only for some who abide in such a path, not for all. Afterwards, Manjushri asked, how does one realize the four noble truths? It was previously said that to be liberated from samsara, one must know the four truths as they truly are.
