It is not necessary to see emptiness without inherent existence. In response to that: Because the scriptures say, without this path, there is no enlightenment. It means that without this path of seeing emptiness as established by its own nature, none of the three enlightenments can be attained. The way it is said is like the quote from the Great Commentary on the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: The Mother Sutra says that those who have a concept of things do not have liberation, and that the stream-enterer to the solitary realizer of the three times are attained by relying on this Prajñāpāramitā. This is only for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment, and it is not meaningless. Then, with the four lines "The root of the teaching is the monk himself," it is also shown that the path with the object of clinging to the truth of the mind does not attain Nirvana. Then, regarding the statement "If liberation is through abandoning afflictions, then immediately it will change," this is just stating the view of the former side, and its meaning is, as it is said, "Liberation will be through seeing the truth," through practicing the path of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, if liberation is attained by abandoning afflictions, then it should be said that. Because here the focus of the debate is whether it is possible to be liberated from afflictions merely through the path of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, and it is clear from the debate of "seeing the truth" etc. Therefore, if it is admitted that it is possible to exhaust afflictions merely through the path of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, and then it is explained that this does not liberate from all suffering, then this is completely not its meaning. Therefore, by considering this path as afflictions common to the two vehicles of the Śrāvakayāna, as mentioned before, by generating this path in the continuum, when there is no manifestation for a while, if it is considered that liberation from the exhaustion of afflictions is attained, then merely temporarily abandoning the manifestation of afflictions will immediately lead to the attainment of liberation from the exhaustion of all defilements. This is the intention of refutation. The reason why this cannot be accepted is because "Although there are no afflictions, they, see the power of karma." It means that although there are no manifest afflictions for a while, due to the power of karma, it can still be seen that it has the ability to project future rebirths. That's what it shows. These texts must be explained in this way, but some commentaries and Tibetans think that even without afflictions, Maudgalyāyana's son

And, seeing that the Venerable Angulimala and others experienced suffering due to the results of karma accumulated in their previous ordinary states, they were not immediately liberated. As it is said, Do not do this, this is not the power to generate suffering in this life, but the power of karma to propel the next rebirth is irreversible, so there is no liberation. To show this, (the scripture) says: A mind devoid of emptiness, once ceased, will arise again, like the absorption of non-discrimination. The meaning is that if one is separated from the realization of emptiness, even if one practices other paths, the mind associated with afflictions will temporarily cease, but it will not be completely reversed, so afflictions will arise again manifestly, and due to the effect of karma, the cycle of samsara will not cease. Showing that the mind associated with afflictions will temporarily cease means, as mentioned before, that the abandonment of the manifestation of afflictions will temporarily occur. In response to "The power of karma is seen," it is said: If it is certain that there is no temporary clinging to craving. It means that the craving that takes rebirth is exhausted by that path, so it is certain that due to the effect of karma, the next rebirth will not be taken. In response to this answer, the other party said: Even if this craving is not an affliction, why does it not exist like coemergent ignorance? It means that for those who do not understand coemergent ignorance, just as you would like to admit that there are two types of afflictions, as stated in the Sutra school and the Mahasamghika school, and non-afflictions, why not admit that craving also has two types of afflictions and non-afflictions as stated in the Sutra school? This is to show that there is a non-afflictive craving that is commonly acknowledged by the two schools and the Mahayana, but it is not that one's own school does not acknowledge craving as an affliction. Therefore, even if one temporarily abandons the manifestation of craving caused by the self-grasping that holds the person to be an independent and self-sufficient entity, why not abandon the craving caused by the coemergent view of self that holds the person to be inherently existent? Therefore, for the abandonment of manifestation mentioned earlier, the coemergent view of self and the manifestation of craving just mentioned will not be reversed either. If the manifestation of afflictions of both schools is abandoned, then it is the same that both schools have not abandoned the seeds, and the manifestation exists.
