For example, even when focusing on beings to be tamed, it is called focusing on the Dharma. Therefore, focusing on beings that are merely imputed by the Dharma is called focusing on the Dharma, which is omitting the intermediate words. Compassion that focuses on the absence of an object is not merely focused on sentient beings, but on sentient beings who are empty of inherently existing special characteristics. Absence of an object refers to the absence of an object of attachment as grasped by conceptuality, which is absence of inherent existence. Focusing on sentient beings distinguished by absence of inherent existence is called focusing on the absence of an object, or compassion without an object, which is omitting the intermediate words. Many Tibetan commentators say that the second compassion focuses on momentary destruction, and the third compassion focuses on absence of inherent existence. This is an explanation that does not well understand the aspects of these objects. It must be admitted that the second compassion is characterized by the aspect of wanting to separate sentient beings from suffering, and if both momentary and absence of inherent existence are considered as aspects,

It is also because there are many kinds of compassion that are directed towards sentient beings without distinction. For example, by refuting the object of clinging to a pot as permanent, even by understanding impermanence, many pots will appear that do not take the pot as an object, but are distinguished by impermanence; even by understanding that a pot is impermanent, it is like a pot that does not take the pot as an object, but is distinguished by permanence. The three kinds of compassion here, no matter which of the three objects is taken as the object, all have the form of wanting to save all sentient beings from all suffering, so there is a great difference from the compassion of Hearers and Solitary Realizers. When such compassion arises, the Bodhicitta will arise, thinking that for the benefit of sentient beings, I must attain the state of Buddhahood in any way. The compassion that becomes the object of offering and praise, although the initial compassion is the main one, is also the compassion of other Bodhisattvas, so in these cases, it is not contradictory that the commentary says that the one who generates compassion is a Bodhisattva. So, does the compassion that is the cause of the Bodhisattva who first enters the path have three kinds of compassion? There are two situations for this. Those who follow the Dharma with the Mahayana nature first seek to understand the true suchness, and after thoroughly establishing the ultimate truth, they rely on generating great compassion for sentient beings to increase sentient beings and learn the discipline of the Able One, the behavior of the Bodhisattva. Those who follow faith with the Mahayana nature, because they cannot realize suchness in advance, after generating Bodhicitta, they learn behaviors such as seeking to understand the true meaning. As it is said in the Ornament of the Middle Way: 'First abandoning the search for true knowledge, after completely determining the ultimate truth, for the world dense with wrong views, constantly generating compassion, for the benefit of beings becoming brave, the wise one with expanding Bodhi wisdom, adorned with wisdom and compassion, truly practices the discipline of the Able One. Those who follow with true faith, after generating perfect Bodhicitta, take up the discipline of the Able One, that is.'

As it is said, "Strive to seek correct knowledge," therefore, all three kinds of compassion must be generated beforehand. Even if the view of suchness is obtained beforehand, when learning the practice, one must also ascertain the meaning of suchness, not only to ensure that there is no contradiction in learning it, but also to ensure that the method is definitely determined. In that way, even if one does not actually vow to compose after expressing praise, there is no fault, as with the Root Verses on the Middle Way and the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning. Similarly, after vowing to compose, there are also cases like the Letter to a Friend where praise is not actually made. However, since one makes praise with the intention of composing Engaging with the Middle Way, there is implicitly a vow to compose. Furthermore, the subject matter of the limbs of Engaging, necessity, and relationship, are the two, profound and vast, and the uncommon necessity has already been explained. The immediate necessity, the temporary one, is from understanding the meaning of the treatise and practicing it, to traversing the four paths. The ultimate is the ground of fruition. The immediate necessity depends on the necessity, and the necessity depends on the treatise, which is the relationship. The second has two parts: the ground of the cause and the ground of the result. The first has three parts: a general presentation of how to practice the path of this system, a specific explanation of how to practice in the stage of ordinary beings, and a presentation of the nature of the bodhisattva's noble stage. The first: If in this treatise the profound and vast path of the bodhisattva is determined following Nagarjuna, then, for the time being, what kind of order of the path to the Buddha's ground does the protector Nagarjuna consider? In this regard, determining the system of the second Buddha Nagarjuna and others through hearing and thinking is for the sake of gaining great certainty in the way to practice the correct path oneself, and for the sake of not being misled by paths that appear similar. Therefore, no matter how much one studies the texts of the systems of the great chariots, if one is a hearer and thinker who does not gain any certainty in the way to practice one's own path, it is because the way of hearing and thinking has not grasped the essential point. Even if one labors on the Great Vehicle, one will not properly attain the essence. Therefore, one should strive to know the order of traversing the paths. Nagarjuna's feet on the part of the path
