The consciousness that cognizes in such a way, and the apprehended object that is a different entity from it, do not exist even slightly. This is like those who speak of the Lord of Power, etc., as the cause, such as: 'The cow is the cause of the herd of cows, crystal is like water, branches are like tree trunks, that is the cause of all sentient beings.' Just as those who say that the Lord of Power, etc., are the creators of beings, so also the proponents of the Alaya-consciousness say that the consciousness is the basis of all objects of perception, and thus speak of it as the all-seeds. The difference is that the Lord of Power is constant, while the Alaya-consciousness is impermanent. Therefore, those who are accustomed to the views of non-Buddhists in many lifetimes are tamed by explaining the Alaya-consciousness. Then, in the commentary, when stating the views of the Mind-Only school, it is often said 'there is no external object,' and 'the apprehended object that is different from consciousness does not exist even slightly.' Regarding the apprehended object of form, etc., the distinction 'different from consciousness' is mentioned, and in the commentary on 'sensory power with form, called the eye,' it says, 'the eye power that is different from consciousness does not exist.' Just as the distinction is added to the object to be refuted as before, is this what is intended in the case of the Mind-Only school? Or, is it that the five forms, etc., and the five sensory powers with form, are admitted to be non-existent without adding the distinction? If that is the thought, although there are both cases of adding and not adding the distinction in this commentary, if there are many cases of adding the distinction to the object to be refuted when preventing birth, then in all cases where it is not added, it should be adopted in the same way. It should be done in the same way here as well. Here, in the text of the Compendium of Treatises, which states the former position, 'Why is it called the consciousness that takes?' Because it is the cause of all sensory powers with form, and because it is the place where all bodies are taken near. Thus, for as long as life lasts, until following after, it holds the five sensory powers with form near without destroying them.' And, 'The common is the seed of the container world. The uncommon is the seed of each individual birth place. The common is the seed of the arising of non-feeling.' Thus, the seed of the container world on the Alaya-consciousness, non-feeling.

It is said to be the seed of things, and it is also said similarly in the Compendium. In the Explanation of the Dependent Arising Sutra, it is said that name and form are established by the cause of the alaya consciousness, in which the name aggregate is explained as the remaining four aggregates, and form is explained as the form arising from earth, water, fire, and wind. Like this, even if there is no form, it exists in the other two realms, etc. It seems that the Mind-Only school acknowledges limitless forms. If it is not like this, in the case of Mind-Only, from the top of the form aggregate, all the naming of form, sound, etc., if not newly created, it seems that it would inevitably become impossible to name it only with the already named name. Even if one sees that it cannot be named like this, saying that this doctrine is good is something that no Buddhist in the sacred land of India would agree with. The meaning of the name "speaking within knowledge" is that knowable things are form, sound, etc., and it does not consider these to be external, but refers to speaking of them as objects of knowledge within. If the Mind-Only school acknowledges form, sound, etc., then preventing them from being external would become a mere dispute over names, because the forms, etc., that appear to be external are established as external. If you say so, this is similar to the Madhyamaka school preventing form, etc., from being established by their own characteristics, and then establishing form, etc., and establishing the forms, etc., that appear to be established by their own characteristics as being established by their own characteristics. Arguing about their existence or non-existence becomes arguing about names. Because this seems to be a huge difficulty for both schools. Not only is the view of Madhyamaka difficult to understand, but also for this view of the Mind-Only school, if external objects are prevented, then form, etc., will also disappear, and if form, etc., are established, then external objects must also be established, it seems to be like this. Although these are difficult, I did not write them because there are too many. Because the way of establishing the scriptures is said to be as previously explained, therefore, whatever the nature of other-powered self-establishment is, this should undoubtedly be acknowledged. Because the apprehended and the apprehender are truly existent, are provisionally established, and holding onto them as different entities, etc., is the cause, that is, the basis, of wanting to become the net of all conceptual thoughts. The reason for the rope being mistaken for a snake is
