Just as the ocean has no trees, the mind, though without, will move. Similarly, the Alaya-consciousness, relies on the body and moves. How is it correct that the Alaya-consciousness holds existence? This is because, after negating things other than the mind, the mind-only that is spoken of negates the mind-only that is not established by its own nature. This is to dispel the fear of all children towards the teaching of emptiness. It is not the ultimate reality. The purity of the mind after transformation spoken of by the Yogacharas is established by its own nature. When it is negated that each is established as the object of self-cognition, the answer to the dispute that exists in the mind is: if the mind is not real, then the act of moving from the previous life to here, and from here to the next life, is unreasonable. Just as iron and wood have no mind, but move as if they do. Although the Alaya is not real, it appears to be with the movement of coming and going as if it were real. Because this is how it is taught, it is not to admit that the Alaya-consciousness is established by its own nature as stated in other treatises. If even though one does not admit that the Alaya is established by its own nature, one thinks that it is different in nature from the six consciousnesses, like an illusion, and admits that it is all the seeds of all pure dharmas, then, if one admits such an Alaya, then the habits of the Alaya will ripen and only appear as form, sound, etc. If one must admit that there is no external object, then, it says in that: Knowledge understands the knowable, without the knowable there is no knowledge. If so, why not admit that there is neither the knowable nor the knower? Because the external knowable and the internal consciousness are the same in existence and non-existence, it is said that if one does not exist, the other does not exist. In this treatise, it means that the two, object and consciousness, are the same in non-existence in the ultimate sense, and the same in existence in the conventional sense. Therefore, in the two truths, it is unreasonable to distinguish between existence and non-existence for the two. Because there is no difference from what is said, the existence of consciousness without an external object is not the view of the teacher. Therefore, because it does not admit the Alaya that is different in nature from the mind consciousness, the Alaya is said to be generally the mind that has awareness and clarity and is established as the Alaya, especially the mind consciousness, because the general mind

In order to refute the establishment of the ground, it is because the mind does not exist in truth, so it is a way of being able to act; because the mind that grasps birth in samsara is consciousness; because consciousness is the basis of all defilement and purification. In the Essence of Madhyamaka, the Alaya-consciousness as it is in the literal sense is also refuted. The teacher Yeshe Nyingpo also said: Outsiders do not accept the Alaya-consciousness. For the Mind-Only school that refutes external objects, there are two possibilities regarding whether or not to accept the Alaya-consciousness. The teacher Kamalashila, who does not accept external objects, also said: Only the mind is capable of connecting to the next life. As it is said in the scriptures: Severance and connection, freedom from desire, decay and death, transference and birth, only consciousness can do this. Quoting the words from the Abhidharmakosha, it is clear that the great teacher Shantarakshita also does not accept the Alaya-consciousness. Abhayakaragupta is also the same. In other Mahayana scriptures, the Alaya-consciousness is mentioned, but the name is not clear and cannot be clearly identified. Analyzing the meaning, they do not accept that there is another nature other than the six consciousnesses. This view also seems to lean towards accepting external objects, so this name is given to consciousness. These need to be elaborated in detail, but due to the length, they will not be elaborated. The third point is: In order to guide sentient beings to be tamed, the initial teaching of Alaya-consciousness and so on is not only that. However, for example, even if the view of the aggregates of fear with habitual tendencies is abandoned, and all the conceptualizations of clinging to "I" and "mine" are abandoned, saying "I" and "mine" is a method for the world to understand the meaning of the Dharma. Therefore, just as the Buddha, the Bhagavan, taught "I" and "mine," although things do not have inherent existence, teaching them as having inherent existence in a provisional way is a method for the world to gradually understand suchness. In short, just as saying "I" and "mine," although it seems that there are conceptualizations of "that" and "that," the ultimate meaning is the absence of conceptualization. Similarly, teaching that phenomena have inherent existence seems to be the intention of the Buddha.
