Therefore, if one asserts that things are established by their own nature, it would lead to nihilism. Even if one considers that things that existed before later disappear or decay as impermanent, it would still become a nihilistic view. Because if one asserts that things exist by their own nature, no matter whether one considers it permanent or impermanent, one will fall into the extreme views of permanence or annihilation. Here, the commentary on the Root Wisdom says: The Buddha emanates an emanation, and that emanation emanates another, and so on. Similarly, the agent, the action, and the result are said to be similar to them. This shows that from the absence of inherent existence, the absence of inherent existence arises. Therefore, all actions and functions are established on the absence of inherent existence, thus showing that there is no nihilistic view. If here, in conventional truth, one does not negate establishment by its own characteristics, one will not realize the extremely subtle selflessness. Therefore, it is difficult for extremely subtle views of permanence and annihilation to arise in the mindstream. So, completely abandoning the views of permanence and annihilation is the merit of negating the object of negation in conventional truth. If existence in conventional truth is negated, not only will one not fall into the views of permanence and annihilation in relation to ultimate truth, but also because one is not stained by the defilements of the views of permanence and annihilation in relation to conventional truth, it becomes easier to abandon the views of permanence and annihilation. Secondly, there are three points: showing that if one does not accept inherent existence, one does not need to accept the alaya-vijnana etc.; showing the example of the result arising from the cessation of karma; and refuting the arguments against this view. The first point has three points: explaining the connecting text; explaining the meaning of the root verses; and explaining the meaning derived from it. The first point is: In this way, since there is no inherent existence in both truths, not only are the views of permanence and annihilation abandoned far away, but even if the karmas have ceased and a long time has passed, the connection between the karmas and their results is also reasonable without completely speculating about the alaya-vijnana, the stream of consciousness, non-loss, and attainment, etc. That is, for the school that does not have inherent existence even in name, not only is there the merit of abandoning the views of permanence and annihilation far away, but even if one does not accept the alaya-vijnana etc., the connection between karma and result is very reasonable. For the way of explaining the scriptures of the noble ones, inherent existence is

Even without a trace of (fault), relying on the unique tenet of the explanatory method that is satisfied by abandoning all actions, there are many uncommon points with other (schools) that explain the pure tenets. What are they? If we briefly mention the main ones, there are the alaya-consciousness, which is a different entity from the six consciousnesses, and the uncommon way of refuting self-awareness, and the three points of not accepting that the view of suchness arises in the opponent's mind through the reasoning of self-continuity, and that just as consciousness is accepted, external objects must also be accepted, that Hearers and Solitary Realizers have the realization that things are without inherent existence, that grasping at the self of phenomena is established as affliction, that destruction is real, and that for this reason, the way of establishing the three times is uncommon, and so on. The first of these is what is taught here, and the way in which not accepting self-awareness is related to not wanting inherent existence to be established will be explained later. The way in which not accepting self-continuity is related to this has already been explained extensively elsewhere, and will also be explained briefly here. The way in which accepting external objects is related to this will be explained later, and the way in which the fifth is also related to this is that Buddhapalita says that, as it is said in the Hearer's Pitaka that all phenomena are selfless, the basis of the non-existence that is said refers to inherent existence, and this is also considered here. This is also the meaning of the complete characteristic of selflessness. Therefore, the complete characteristic of the selflessness of persons must also refer to the non-existence of the inherent existence of the person himself, and to truly realize it, one must also realize the key point of the selflessness of phenomena as it is. If this is the case, then it must be assumed that grasping at the self of phenomena is definitely an affliction, therefore in the recognition of afflictions there are two types, coarse and subtle, and two views on whether or not liberation is possible with just the path of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, and many differences such as the different boundaries from which the obscurations of knowledge are abandoned. So, firstly, the view of suchness of those who have entered the Great Vehicle has been well established, and the possibility that both those who have fallen into the Hearer and Solitary Realizer paths have a common basis, both Madhyamikas must also assume this, and if so, then such a person will directly experience the selflessness of phenomena by meditating on it, and also one who, having seen it in this way, becomes accustomed to it
