In the non-other side that is established. Because the two are not contradictory in terms of cause and effect, when there is a sprout, the seed is destroyed, that is, its lineage is cut off, thus eliminating annihilation. It has been said many times that the seed ceases at the time of the sprout. When explaining the meaning of the seed's destruction, it is said that the seed's continuity is cut off, and it is also said that the seed's non-destruction is prohibited. Therefore, the so-called seed's continuity being cut off refers to the cutting off of its lineage. Because the seed and the sprout do not exist as one entity, the seed itself does not transform into the sprout. Also, because the non-destruction of the seed is prohibited at the time of the sprout, one should not say that there is a seed when there is a sprout, thus also prohibiting permanence. As explained in this way, the Larger Play Sutra says: If there is a seed, it is like a sprout. What is the seed is not the sprout itself. It is neither different nor the same, such is the nature. It is neither continuous nor permanent, such is the nature of phenomena. The meaning of this is that if a seed exists, then the sprout, which has the seed as its cause, will also arise as it is. When it arises, it is not permissible for the sprout to arise from the seed itself. If one thinks that the seed and the sprout are one entity, then, although the sprout does not arise from something other than the seed, the seed itself does not transform into the sprout. What is the reason for this? Because the sprout is not born from the seed as a self-established other, nor is it of the same nature. When both such views are prohibited, the nature of the sprout is revealed as the dharma nature that is free from permanence and annihilation. This meaning is also stated in the same sutra: All actions are conditioned by ignorance. Those actions are not the same as it. These two, actions and ignorance, are empty. By nature, they are free from movement and have no essence. The first line states the reason why actions arise dependent on ignorance, the second line states the thesis that those actions do not exist as it itself, the third line shows that both cause and effect are empty, and the fourth line shows the way of emptiness, movement is the manifestation of fabrication, and freedom from movement is that actions are empty by actions. This also shows the distinction of what is to be refuted, which is freedom from self-establishment, which has the same meaning as not existing as itself.

Moreover, the meaning of that sutra is also stated in the root verses of the treatise: That which arises in dependence on what, that is temporarily not that itself, nor is it other than that, therefore it is neither permanent nor annihilated. Thus it is said. The fourth part has two sections: refuting the assertion that things exist by their own nature, and refuting arguments against that refutation. The first part has three sections: refuting by arguing that the samadhi of the noble ones would become the cause of the destruction of things, refuting by arguing that conventional truth would be too vulnerable to rational analysis, and refuting by arguing that the ultimate birth would not be prevented. First, it must be undoubtedly accepted that no dharma whatsoever arises by its own nature. As it is said, it is appropriate to say that this meaning must be accepted, but it should not be said in reverse that acceptance cannot be established here. If it is not so, if the own-nature of forms, feelings, etc., that is, the own-nature established by its own essence, arises in dependence on causes and conditions, then when a yogi directly realizes that all dharmas are empty of being established by their own nature, he will realize emptiness in the manner of denigrating the own-nature of things, because samadhi must not apprehend forms, etc., and if those are established by their own nature, then samadhi must apprehend them, but since it does not apprehend them, then those things will cease to exist. If those do not exist, then those things will become destruction, that is, annihilation, existing before samadhi and then disappearing. Therefore, for such destruction, samadhi itself must become the cause, just as a hammer, etc., is the cause of the destruction of a vase, etc., seeing emptiness also becomes the cause of the destruction of the own-nature of things and the denigration of it, then that is also unreasonable, therefore the establishment of the own-nature of things is non-existent, therefore one should not assert self-origination at all times. Here, those Madhyamikas who assert self-origination, for the reason that although it is established by its own nature, it does not become truly established, if forms, etc., are established by their own nature, then because they see that very reality directly, they do not need to be apprehended. Thus they say, but.
