It is prohibited, and the "I" established through treatises is declared as the object. Therefore, one should take as the object only the "I" that arises with the mere thought of "I am," and only the person. As for the aspect, the self-commentary says, "Because the self-graspers conceive of a non-existent self as existing, and cling to it as truly manifest here." Therefore, the "I" is grasped as truly established. Furthermore, the self-commentary says, "Among them, the view of the aggregates is the wisdom afflicted with the aspect of 'I' and 'mine'." As it is said, since the object of the innate view of the aggregates requires the spontaneous arising of the thought "I am," therefore, although the innate self-grasping of a person who grasps another's continuum as established by its own character is innate, it is not the innate view of the aggregates. "Having the aspect of 'I' and 'mine'" does not mean merely showing the object of the way of grasping "I" and "mine," but rather showing the aspect of grasping those two as established by their own character. The object of the innate view of the aggregates that grasps as mine is merely "mine" itself, and one's own eyes, etc., are not taken as objects. The aspect is that, focusing on that object, one grasps "mine" as established by its own character. Then, in the self-commentary of "This is mine," it says, "This is mine, clinging to the appearance of all things other than the object of such self-grasping." If, based on the eyes, etc., clinging to "This is mine" is said to be grasping as mine, how should that be understood? That is to say, seeing the eyes, etc., as mine, it means clinging to mine as truly manifest, and it does not show the basis of the nature of mine, the eyes, etc., as the object. If it were not so, then the view of the aggregates and the self-grasping of phenomena would not be contradictory. The object of the innate self-grasping of phenomena is the aggregates of form, etc., of one's own and others' continuums, as well as the eyes, ears, etc., and the vessels, etc., that are not included in the continuum. The aspect is as previously explained. Thus, grasping at the two selves is the ignorance that binds one to samsara, as the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness says: 'Whatever conception arises from causes and conditions, the Teacher declared that to be ignorance.'
