Although it is not clear whether the object and basis of anger are Bodhisattvas, the commentary states that both the object and basis are considered to be Bodhisattvas. Because before quoting the Sutra of Various Plays, the Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra is quoted in the Compendium of Sutras, which says: If a Bodhisattva scolds, beats with sticks, rods, and fists all sentient beings belonging to the three thousand great thousand worlds, the Bodhisattva will not be injured or harmed thereby. However, if a Bodhisattva generates even a slight intention to harm, contempt, or hatred towards another Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva will be injured or harmed thereby. Why is that? If he has not completely abandoned omniscience, the Bodhisattva must wear armor for as many eons as he generates intentions to harm, contempt, or hatred towards another Bodhisattva. It seems that it was made based on the fact that both the object and basis are said to be Bodhisattvas. Then, what about what the teachers Hero and Shantideva said: "Whatever good deeds are accumulated in a thousand eons, such as giving and offering to the Sugatas, all of them are destroyed by a single anger." How is it that this destroys the good accumulated in a thousand eons? Some commentaries on the Bodhisattvacharyavatara say: "The good accumulated over millions of eons is destroyed by hatred towards sentient beings," but it is hard to believe. Although these two teachers did not explicitly state the object and basis, the object of anger that destroys the roots of virtue accumulated over hundreds or thousands of eons must be a Bodhisattva. Considering the statement that "the basis of anger is a great Bodhisattva," it seems that the Bodhisattva of the object is more powerful than the Bodhisattva of the basis. Therefore, the basis of anger is definitely an ordinary Bodhisattva, while the object has two cases: whether or not it has attained the ground. In this way, there are three cases: a Bodhisattva being angry at a weaker one because of greater power, being angry at a stronger one because of weakness, and being equally angry because the object and basis have equal power. The first case is a hundred eons, and if one is not a Bodhisattva but is angry at a Bodhisattva, then it is clearly a thousand eons.

The second and third, and the destruction of roots of virtue based on the difference between the superior and inferior objects in the second case, should also be examined based on the scriptures. From "three thousand" to "will not change," it refers to a Bodhisattva being angry in mind towards a non-Bodhisattva, verbally abusing and physically striking. This shows that causing harm to a Bodhisattva and a Bodhisattva being injured are different. Therefore, for such a situation, it should be known that there is no need to put on armor from the beginning. If a Bodhisattva merely generates hatred in their mind towards another Bodhisattva, without even expressing it in body or speech, then it is shown that the number of times that thought is generated is the number of eons it will take to put on armor from the beginning. The object in such a case is a Bodhisattva who has received a prophecy, and the basis is one who has not received a prophecy, as stated in the Compendium: "If a Bodhisattva who has not received a prophecy, harbors anger and initiates disputes towards one who has received a prophecy, the moments of the mind with the fault of anger, for that many eons, one must put on armor from the beginning." Therefore, the need to put on armor from the beginning is like, for example, if someone who is able to quickly move from the great accumulation path of a Bodhisattva to the path of preparation, becomes angry with someone who has received a prophecy, then they will not be able to move to the path of preparation for as many eons as the number of angry thoughts, and must learn the path from the beginning. In this regard, the Bodhicharyavatara states: "Whoever generates evil thoughts towards such a prince benefactor, for as many evil thoughts as they generate, they will dwell in hell for that many eons, as stated by the Thuba." This means that for as many times as one generates anger towards a Bodhisattva, one will dwell in hell for that many eons. There is also the fault of destroying the roots of virtue accumulated over many eons. If someone who has not received a prophecy is angry with someone who has received a prophecy, then it is the same as dwelling in hell as mentioned earlier, and there are two situations: the need to put on armor from the beginning and dwelling in hell. As stated in the Condensed Collection of All Dharmas, if the act of abandoning the Dharma occurs, and one confesses the offense three times a day for seven years, although the ripening result can be purified, even if one quickly attains patience, it will still take ten eons. Similarly, if one confesses and restrains from many aspects, even if the path becomes slow and not completely lost, one will still experience the ripening result.
