Having done that, for most other people, it becomes a reason to infer the attainment of inner states that cannot be manifested, etc., that is, it becomes an argument. Just as one infers fire, etc., from smoke, etc. This shows that there is no stain of universal clinging when giving away body, life, and possessions. Even if given away in that way, the continuum does not change into something else, but remains stable. The second part has two points: obtaining the happiness of samsara through giving, and showing that the happiness of nirvana is obtained through giving. The first point is: All these beings desire to obtain the happiness of eliminating suffering such as hunger, thirst, disease, heat, and cold. And the happiness of humans and the like does not arise without relying on the enjoyment of desirable objects such as food and drink, medical supplies, clothing, and dwellings. And these enjoyments are also known to arise from the accumulation of merit from previous giving. Therefore, the Able One, who knows the minds of all beings, first spoke the words of giving, because it is also easy to enter that method. If it is thought that obtaining perfect enjoyment comes from giving, then does the giver need to conform to the rules? It is not necessary, like this: Just as a merchant, from giving away very small wealth, hopes to obtain the fruit, that is, very vast wealth. Therefore, more than a beggar who desires enjoyment, one desires vast enjoyment. Therefore, for giving, respect is not as important as, like Bodhisattvas, being controlled by others solely out of compassion, not seeking the result of giving. For a giver who does not manifestly increase the joyous feast of wanting to give, compassion is low. Moreover, one has a mind with an extremely harsh mind towards sentient beings, only caring for one's own happiness in this life. For what is mainly done, one also turns away from the fault of clinging without giving away enjoyment, only clinging to the merit of expecting maturation, thereby obtaining a lazy giving, from the door of the arising of excellent and perfect enjoyment, it becomes the proximate cause of pacifying suffering such as hunger and thirst. The second point is: If someone is separated from compassion, in order to eliminate their own suffering,

Merely relying on comfort, this reverence for giving is also practiced by the noble ones in terms of the almsgiver's giving. Because it is said, "Through the occasion of giving, when will one quickly meet with a noble being?" Then, that noble one teaches the Dharma, realizing that there is no merit in samsara, and actualizing the undefiled noble path, thereby abandoning ignorance. From beginningless time, the cycle of existence, the continuum of samsara, passing from one birth and death to another, is completely cut off. With meeting the noble one as the cause, one will go to the peace of nirvana of a Hearer or a Solitary Realizer. Third, there are four points: showing the unique benefits of a Bodhisattva's giving; mainly showing the talk of giving to both recipients; showing what kind of joy a Bodhisattva obtains when giving; showing whether there is suffering when a Bodhisattva gives their body. The first is: those who are not Bodhisattvas do not necessarily enjoy the happiness of the fruit of giving at the same time as satisfying the beggars with giving, that is, immediately after that. Therefore, since those people do not see the fruit of giving directly, they may not engage in giving. However, Bodhisattvas with intention, who have vowed to ultimately benefit all beings and immediately accomplish happiness, soon after seeing the beggars satisfied by giving, immediately obtain the supreme joy of the fruit of giving and enjoy the fruit of giving, so they will be happy to give at all times. The second is: because, as mentioned before, the happiness of higher realms and definite goodness in terms of the nature of loving Bodhisattvas and the nature of non-loving is led by giving, therefore, the talk of giving itself is the main thing, that is, it is very important. It is also said in the Letter to a Friend: Knowing that possessions are fleeting and without essence, You should properly give to ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, and friends. In the next life, there is no better friend than giving. So it is said. The third is: by what cause do Bodhisattvas become respectful of giving? To the beggars...
