And the excellent practice of paramitas, prayers and dedications, great compassion, etc., the excellence of the two accumulations, the wonderful power of the Bodhisattva, and the Dharma nature that is inconceivable to ordinary beings and Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are also taught. As it is said in the Ratnavali: "In the Sravaka Vehicle, the aspirations and practices of the Bodhisattva, and the complete dedication are not taught. How can one become a Bodhisattva by this? The meaning of abiding in the Bodhisattva's practice is not taught in the Sutra Pitaka, but it is taught in the Mahayana. Therefore, the wise should uphold it." This is said to dispel the wrong notion that the path taught in the Hinayana Pitaka can lead to Buddhahood, and that no other Mahayana is needed. As you say, the Mahayana teaches the selflessness of phenomena, so it should be said that what is taught in the Hinayana scriptures is not sufficient. But instead of saying that, you say that other vast aspects are taught. If we follow the second approach, then it is not all-pervasive, because the Sravaka Pitaka only teaches the selflessness of phenomena in brief, while the Mahayana teaches the selflessness of phenomena in great detail from many perspectives. This is also the view of the noble ones, as it is said in the Praise of the Transcendent: "Without realizing the signless reality, you say there is no liberation. Therefore, you have fully revealed it in the Mahayana." The first two lines of this verse state that without realizing the signless reality, there is no cessation of afflictions, and therefore no attainment of liberation. The lines beginning with "You" state that the Mahayana fully reveals the signless selflessness of phenomena. From this, it is understood that the selflessness of phenomena is not fully taught in the Hinayana. If one wonders how "therefore" serves as the reason for fully revealing it, it should be explained that since liberation from the cessation of afflictions cannot be attained without realizing the signless, the selflessness of phenomena must also be taught in the Sravaka Vehicle, and therefore there must be a difference between the Great and Small Vehicles. These reveal the fallacy of refutation, and the two cases thrown out by the rebuttal, like revealing a seemingly valid refutation with uncertain pervasion.

is contrary to reason. As for being contrary to scripture, it has been explained many times before. So, do the sutras of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles completely teach the selflessness of phenomena? And in the paths of these two, do they completely meditate on the selflessness of phenomena? What is the meaning of what this teacher is saying? That is, for Mahayana practitioners, there is realization that all knowable things are without inherent existence; while for Hearers and Solitary Realizers, there is no such realization, but rather a realization that some knowable things are without inherent existence. This is definitely not to say that after the selflessness of phenomena has been established by valid cognition on a basis that has already been established, one then goes on to analyze whether other bases are truly existent or not, because one can rely on the previous reasoning to realize non-truth. Some Madhyamikas, having made the way of refuting the true establishment of things, believe that true emptiness is truly established; and some believe that the self-established nature of phenomena is truly established. The former seems to have the fault of not grasping the measure of truth well, but only roughly refuting it. The latter, although claiming to have refuted the truth of things, does not seem to have refuted it from the point of view of valid cognition, but rather remains on the view of slandering things. Therefore, they have no uncertainty. Therefore, for the Mahayana, as stated in the Root Wisdom, even for the establishment of one basis as non-true, it is established by endless different reasonings of establishment, so the wisdom for suchness becomes very broad. But for the Lesser Vehicle, if suchness is established by valid cognition with a brief reasoning, it is not done like the former, so the wisdom for suchness is not broad, so it is said to be broad and concise, and whether the meditation on selflessness is complete or not. The reason why this is so is that Hearers and Solitary Realizers strive to abandon only afflictions, and for them, it is enough to realize only the concise meaning of suchness. Mahayana practitioners are committed to abandoning the obscurations of knowledge, so for them, it is necessary to generate wisdom on suchness, so that wisdom becomes very broad. The second point is, then in the Ornament for Clear Realization it says: 'In order to eliminate the concept of the apprehended, and in order not to eliminate the apprehender, like the path of the coral-like support, it should be known to be condensed and true.' It means that although the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers can eliminate the concept of true clinging to the apprehended,
