Okay. It was said like that, and it was also said similarly for the latter three fruitions. If someone who has attained the Srotapanna fruit clings to the fruit to be attained, thinking, "I have attained the Srotapanna fruit," then he will cling to that very fruit itself. Therefore, the clinging to the truth of both the person and the fruit are said to be self-grasping, the first of which is the self-grasping of the person, and the second is the self-grasping of phenomena. If the Srotapanna does not cling to the idea that "I have attained the fruit," it is because the object of true clinging has been refuted, but it does not mean that there is no innate clinging. Therefore, the latter ones should also be understood. Although some Svātantrika-Madhyamikas explain this scripture differently, it is good that Sherjung Lodrö cited it as evidence that the realization of emptiness is necessary for progressing on the path to the enlightenment of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Therefore, those scriptures clearly show that without the view of suchness, one cannot be liberated from samsara, and that view is necessary for liberation from samsara. Since no wise person would assert or find it reasonable that Śrāvaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats are not liberated from the bonds of samsara, it is clearly shown that Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the realization that phenomena are without inherent existence. Furthermore, there are many other sources such as the Great Mother Sutra, but I have not written them here for fear of being verbose. Secondly, in the Ratnāvalī, it says: "As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is self-grasping; as long as there is self-grasping, there is karma; from that, there is again rebirth. The three paths are without beginning, end, or middle; the circle of samsara is like a firebrand's circle. Like the circle of a firebrand, mutually dependent, this becomes samsara. Since it is not obtained in oneself, others, or the three times, self-grasping will cease, and from that, karma and rebirth will also cease." It was said like that. The first two lines of that show that as long as there is clinging to the truth of the aggregates, the view of the perishable will arise from that. Therefore, in order for the view of the perishable to be completely exhausted, the clinging to the truth of the aggregates must be exhausted. Therefore, we know that Śrāvaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats have also abandoned the clinging to the truth of the aggregates. Therefore, until the object of clinging to the truth has been refuted, the object of clinging to the view of the perishable will not be refuted.
