These are called entering the wrong path. It is stated very clearly. Taking a magical woman as a real woman and contemplating impermanence etc. on her, and taking the aggregates as real and then contemplating impermanence etc. on the aggregates, when these two are combined as example and meaning, there is also the case of taking the real aggregates as the object and contemplating impermanence etc. That is merely a wrong view that is confused about the object of attachment. Although it is not established by valid cognition, in the continuum where the view that refutes the object of grasping at reality has not been found, taking the aggregates that have not been distinguished as true or false as the object, many nominal valid cognitions of impermanence etc. that have not been distinguished by either of the two will arise. Also, when meditating, by meditating on that meaning, the path will arise in the continuum as previously explained. Furthermore, as quoted from the clear words of the example-concealing sutra of the noble Samadhi King Sutra, "Manjushri, because the noble truths are not seen as they truly are, sentient beings whose minds are reversed by the four inversions will not be able to escape from this untrue cycle of existence." After saying this, Manjushri asked, "Bhagavan, by closely focusing on what, will sentient beings not be able to escape from the cycle of existence? Please explain." The Buddha said that because the four truths are not known as they truly are, one cannot be liberated from the cycle of existence. To this, the Venerable One (Tsongkhapa) asked, "By focusing on what object, in what way, is it said that one cannot be liberated from the cycle of existence?" The answer is, "Thinking that I will escape from the cycle of existence and attain Nirvana, one contemplates in a way that clings to reality. When meditating on impermanence etc., one thinks, 'I have understood suffering, I have abandoned the origin, I have realized cessation, I have meditated on the path,' and thus the thought arises that I have become an Arhat." As previously explained, when temporarily abandoning the manifest afflictions, the thought arises that all defilements are exhausted. When death comes, seeing oneself taking rebirth again, due to the fault of doubting the Buddha, one will fall into the great hell. This is only for some who abide in such a path, not for all. Then, Manjushri asked, "How does one realize the four noble truths?"

Regarding the request for clarification: It was previously stated that in order to be liberated from samsara, one must understand the Four Noble Truths as they truly are, and this is the question being asked here. The answer to that is: Manjushri, whoever sees all conditioned phenomena as unborn, that one has fully understood suffering. Whoever sees all phenomena as having no arising, that one has abandoned the origin of suffering. Whoever sees all phenomena as being utterly extinguished, that one has realized cessation. Whoever sees all phenomena as being utterly unborn, that one has cultivated the path. Having said that, it is also said that by this path, one attains nirvana without grasping anything. This indicates that whoever sees the Four Noble Truths as being without inherent existence, that one will be liberated from samsara. If one has not separated from the clinging to reality, then by this path one will not be able to escape from samsara, which is stated very clearly. Therefore, merely through the path of the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, one cannot abandon the seeds of afflictions, and it is shown that in order to abandon them, one must understand the meaning of reality and then meditate. If these are not well distinguished, one will assume that the Shravakas only have the practice of meditating on the sixteen aspects such as impermanence in order to abandon afflictions. In that case, the Shravaka Arya and the Shravaka Arhat will not be able to attain the status of Arya and Arhat. In this way, one will accumulate the great sin of slandering the Aryas. If someone who speaks in this way has the Bodhisattva vows, they will also generate a root downfall. Because in the Compendium of Trainings it says, "Those of the learning vehicle hold that attachment and so forth cannot be abandoned, and also cause others to hold that way," therefore it is a root downfall. This meaning is also clearly stated in the Diamond Sutra. Subhuti, what do you think? Does a stream-enterer think, 'I have attained the fruit of stream-entry'? Subhuti replied, 'No, Bhagavan. Why is that? Bhagavan, because there is no entering into anything, therefore it is called a stream-enterer.' And, 'Bhagavan, if a stream-enterer were to think, "I have attained the fruit of stream-entry," then that very one would be clinging to self. And would be clinging to sentient beings, clinging to life, and clinging to person.'
