If the manifest afflictions of both are abandoned, but the seeds of both are not abandoned, then it is the same. If there is no difference between the presence or absence of manifestation, then distinguishing craving is meaningless. Because of feeling, there is craving. These feelings also have craving. As it is said, the reason why craving is not reversed by abandoning other manifest afflictions through other paths is that if one lacks the view of realizing that very reality, then even a little bit of ignorance of clinging to reality in feeling cannot be abandoned. In that case, when a pleasant feeling arises, why doesn't craving arise to not separate from it? When a painful feeling arises, why doesn't craving arise to want to separate from it? Because from a cause with complete favorable conditions and no opposing conditions, the result is certain to arise. The way in which craving is reversed from feeling in one's own system is: When there is no experiencer and no feeling, at that time, seeing this state, why wouldn't craving be reversed? As stated in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," if one is accustomed to seeing that neither the experiencer nor the feeling exists inherently, it is shown that craving will be reversed. Therefore, it also shows that if there is no such path, why would all craving be reversed? This is the meaning of "With a mind possessing a place and afflictions, how could great poison not arise?" from the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning. Regarding the statement that craving exists because of the reason that feeling exists, Chapa and Tsek Wangchuk Senge refuted that it is not good because one cannot prove that the result exists because the cause exists. The reason they oppose the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" is that in Tibet, the latter is more famous regarding whether the Hearers have realized the selflessness of phenomena, and they are more accustomed to that view, and they have not thoroughly studied the reasoning of the first view, so they have not understood the profound meaning in detail, and it is a great mistake to rashly criticize great scholars. Similarly, some criticisms of Chandrakirti by Tibetans also appear because they have not thoroughly understood the previous view and express what seems to be a mistake. If seen by the wise, it only shows one's own ignorance, which is a very shameful thing. Therefore, the commentary distinguishes that through the path of the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., one can abandon the afflictions of imputation, but one cannot abandon the innate afflictions.

It is not so. To abandon only the manifest afflictions that are known in the common vehicle, both the imputed and the innate are the same. Because the seeds cannot be abandoned, both are also the same. Here, the views of Chandrakirti and Shantideva do not seem to have been understood as being the same. If one does not realize the selflessness of the aggregates, one will not realize the selflessness of the person. If that is the case, not realizing the selflessness of the person, just as the emptiness of phenomena such as the aggregates is established as the selflessness of phenomena, the selflessness of the person must also be established as the selflessness of the person, because all the reasons are the same. If that is the case, grasping the person as real must be established as the self-grasping of the person. If that is not the case, all afflictions will not be exhausted, and grasping the person and phenomena as real must be established as afflictions. This must also be established in Shantideva's system. The second has two parts: quoting the evidence of the Mahayana sutras and quoting the evidence of the treatises and the Hinayana sutras. The first is: From the "Explanatory Words" of the "Sublime Thought of Brahma Asked Sutra": For example, when someone watches a magician's performance, sees a woman conjured by the magician, and generates a mind of desire. He is disturbed by desire, feels ashamed and afraid, so he gets up and leaves his seat. Even after he leaves, he still contemplates the impurity of that woman, and contemplates impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Son of good family, what do you think? Is that person entering the right path correctly, or is he entering the wrong path incorrectly? Brahma replied: World Honored One, for a woman who does not exist, he contemplates impurity, and contemplates impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. That person's effort is wrong. The World Honored One said: Son of good family, here, some monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen contemplate the impurity of phenomena that have not been born and have not arisen, and contemplate impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. They should also be viewed in the same way. Do not say, "I am practicing the path for those foolish people."
