It can also accomplish seeing what has been seen as illusory and making it stable through habituation. However, from that point on, one must traverse the ten bhumis and the three subsequent paths, just as the Madhyamikas explain it as having a guiding meaning. Although one should meditate on the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, it is believed that the realization of the selflessness of the person, as previously explained, is the path that liberates from afflictions. As stated in the Compendium of Topics: 'Through the mind that is without self, afflictions are abandoned, and the remaining aspects are said to be the means of completely purifying it.' And also in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: 'Liberation comes from the view of emptiness; the remaining meditations are for that purpose.' Thus, it is said in accordance with the former. Being confused by the mere word 'view of emptiness,' some Indians also believe it to be the view of realizing suchness, which is not the case. Rather, it refers to the emptiness of the person, that is, emptiness of inherently existent self-sufficient substance. Although this path cannot eliminate the seeds of afflictions, it can temporarily prevent the manifestation of afflictions. If it must be believed that, with the common aspects of quiescence and coarseness shared with non-Buddhists, the manifestation of afflictions up to the realm of nothingness can be eliminated, as stated in the Abhidharma, then how much more so can the previous path temporarily eliminate manifestation? The affliction that is said to eliminate the manifestation of afflictions is also the affliction with an object and aspect as described in the two Abhidharma treatises. However, the ignorance of clinging to reality, which this system explains as afflictive, and the afflictions of view and non-view based on it, which are different from the way they are described in the Abhidharma, cannot be eliminated even when manifested. Although the manifestation of afflictions included in the peak of existence as described in the Abhidharma cannot be eliminated with the aspects of quiescence and coarseness, it can be eliminated by habituating the path of realizing the coarse selflessness of the person as previously explained. They have clearly shown that the paths mentioned in the commentaries as antidotes to afflictions that are contrary to the realization of suchness are similar to the paths with aspects of quiescence and coarseness, and like non-Buddhists, they cannot eliminate all afflictions. Second, this is also accepted by the great Bodhisattva Shantideva. As stated in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: 'Liberation comes from seeing the truth; what is the use of seeing emptiness?' Thus, the meaning of the four truths.

If one can be liberated from afflictions through the path of seeing the sixteen aspects such as permanence, then there is no need to see emptiness without inherent existence in order to end afflictions. As an answer to this: Because the scriptures say that without this path, there is no enlightenment. It means that without the path of seeing emptiness as established by its own nature, none of the three enlightenments can be attained. The way it is said is like the quotation from the Great Commentary on the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: The Prajnaparamita Sutra says that those who have a concept of things have no liberation, and that the stream-enterer to the Pratyekabuddha of the three times are attained by relying on this Prajnaparamita. Therefore, it is meaningless to do this only for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment. Then, with the four lines "The root of the teachings is the Bhikshu," it is also shown that Nirvana cannot be attained by the path with the aim of clinging to the truth of the mind. Then, "If liberation is attained by abandoning afflictions, then it will immediately change." The saying "If liberation is attained by abandoning afflictions" is a statement of the former view. Its meaning is, as it is said, "Liberation will be attained by seeing the truth," if one abandons afflictions and attains liberation by practicing the sixteen paths such as impermanence, then it should be said that way. Because here, there is a dispute as to whether one can be liberated from afflictions merely through the sixteen paths such as impermanence, and it is very clear from the arguments such as "by seeing the truth." Therefore, if one admits that afflictions can be stopped merely through the sixteen paths such as impermanence, and then explains that this does not liberate from all suffering, then this is definitely not its meaning. Therefore, by generating the path as previously described in the continuum, when it is temporarily not manifest, if it is considered that one can attain the liberation of the cessation of afflictions through the afflictions common to the two Hinayana schools, then merely temporarily abandoning the manifestation of afflictions will immediately lead to the liberation of the cessation of all defilements. This is the intention of refutation. The reason why this cannot be accepted is: "Even without afflictions, the power of karma is seen." It means that even if there is temporarily no manifestation of afflictions, one can see the ability to be reborn in the future due to the power of karma. This shows this. Finally
