If you ask, then who can indicate to other beings to be subdued? There are two: refuting the argument that the suchness cannot be realized, and refuting the argument that it cannot be known. The first is: In this world, when knowledge holds to following the aspect of that object, it is said that that knowledge knows that object. For example, when the mind arises with the aspect of a blue object, it is said that that mind completely knows that blue object, similarly, when the knowledge of the object arises with the aspect that is exactly the same as the suchness of that object, then relying on the truth of convention, it is approximated and established as realizing the suchness. The way in which knowledge follows the aspect of suchness is: When the suchness of the object, which is without inherent arising, is just like that, then the wisdom of its object, like placing water in water, enters into the aspect of being free from inherent arising. Merely relying on and holding the aspect of that object is established as realizing the suchness, therefore there is no fault of the previous argument. In the translation of Naktsö, it says: 'At that time, realizing its suchness is holding its aspect.' Like this, it is incomparably pure. Here, in the auto-commentary, it says: 'Therefore, from imputation, it is established that the suchness is realized. In reality, it is not that someone knows someone, because both knowledge and the knowable are unborn.' The meaning of 'from imputation' is: As it is said, knowing relies on convention, meaning that it is not knowing by its own nature, but merely from imputation it is established as knowing, it is not establishing the knowing of suchness between imputations. The meaning of 'in reality' etc. is that merely the appearance of the aspect of being free from elaboration is not knowing, but the appearance of an aspect similar to the aspects of blue, yellow etc. is not knowing, because the suchness of the object is unborn, similarly, the object is also of the nature of being unborn. In this way, the former proponent argues that the mind will not manifest the aspect of suchness, and if the aspect of the object does not appear, the mind will not enter into the object.
