It is because it abides in its own nature. The emptiness that is established by its own nature, by its very essence, is the emptiness of self-nature. Then, has this reason not been stated in the context of emptiness of emptiness as well? It is true, but in the previous case, it was the emptiness of outer and inner phenomena, established by the wisdom that measures its suchness, in order to dispel the thought of whether it is truly established. Here, since it is a self-nature that is established naturally, without being made by anyone, it is said in order to dispel the thought of whether it is truly established, so it is not a repetition. If you understand that these two reasons for doubt both exist in the nature of phenomena, but that the ability to prevent true establishment is not contradictory, then the wrong conceptions that cling to the ultimate truth as something that cannot be realized by any mind will cease. The fourth has three parts: explaining the emptiness of all phenomena, the emptiness of self-characteristics, and the emptiness of the nature of non-apprehension and non-existence of entities. The first is: all phenomena, which are the six sense-faculties of dependence such as the eye, the six consciousness-realms of dependence such as eye-consciousness, and the six object-realms of focus such as form, totaling eighteen realms, and the six contacts from eye-contact to mind-contact, and the six feelings arising from these six contacts, and the two, form and formless, and similarly, conditioned and unconditioned phenomena. All these phenomena, which are the emptiness that is devoid of being established by their own essence, this is the emptiness of all phenomena. The second has three parts: brief statement, detailed explanation, and summary of meaning. The first is: the characteristic of the form aggregate is being corruptible, etc., and all the pure phenomena from omniscience to , the self-characteristic entities of each, that is, the emptiness that is not established by its own essence, is the emptiness of self-characteristic. The second has three parts: the self-characteristics of the ground phenomena, the path phenomena, and the result phenomena. The first is: again, what are the self-characteristics of form, etc.? Form is characterized by being corruptible, that is, as it says in the sutra: Monks, it exists as form and is corruptible.

Therefore, form is called the aggregate of appropriation. Thus it is said. These respective characteristics are not necessarily opposite in meaning, but rather refer to the main part that represents their respective nature. Feeling is the nature of experiencing pleasure, pain, and equanimity. Perception is the discrimination of external signs, such as blue and yellow, and internal signs, such as pain and pleasure. A sign is a characteristic of an object. Formation is the manifestation of conditioned phenomena, which is other than the other four aggregates. Individually recognizing each object, such as form and sound, is the nature of consciousness. The nature of the aggregates is the nature of suffering and realms, and its nature is like a venomous snake seizing others and causing harm, it is the attachment of sentient beings to samsara. The Buddha said that the sense bases are the source of suffering and the gateway to birth. These three refer to the aggregates, realms, and sense bases of samsara. The nature of dependent origination is thoroughly distinguished by the combination of causes and conditions. Secondly, the nature of generosity is the mind that completely gives up body, enjoyment, and roots of virtue. The nature of ethics is obtaining the coolness of freedom from the suffering of afflictions. The nature of patience is the absence of anger, that is, the mind's ability to endure it. The nature of diligence is the joy of completely upholding virtuous and faultless actions. The nature of meditation is the nature of focusing the mind on a virtuous object in order to gather all virtuous dharmas. The nature of wisdom is non-attachment, in order to enter nirvana, there is no attachment to any dharma, that is, no clinging to truth, in order to prevent it. Thus, the nature of the six perfections, as stated in the sutras, is what has been said above. The four dhyanas, beginning with the first dhyana, the four immeasurables, beginning with loving-kindness, and similarly, other than the first two, the four formless absorptions, beginning with infinite space.
