Just by making distinctions, they say it is truly established, and others, taking things that are not merely objects to be refuted, like yellow dye, as the inherent nature of independence to establish, and considering it to be true, both of these views are severely criticized by the Victorious One (Buddha). Second, since there is no container and contained outside of directions such as the east, sentient beings and the vessel world pervade non-human bodies. And when practicing the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness, it is practiced on all sentient beings pervading all directions, therefore, from the perspective of the object of focus, it is established as immeasurable. With the example of the immeasurability of directions, just like immeasurability. Practicing in this way also has no end, that is, it is established as immeasurable, therefore the ten directions are great. These ten directions, such as the east, are all established by the nature of the directions, therefore, whatever emptiness is, that is the great emptiness. It is said to dispel the clinging to the belief that directions are inherently established as great. The inverted clinging to directions is like some non-Buddhists clinging to directions as permanent substances. The word "meaning" in "ultimate meaning" is used for necessity, like "this has meaning," and like "five meanings," it is used for the object of knowledge. But here, Nirvana is the Dharmakaya, because Nirvana is the supreme necessity to be attained. The Dharmakaya is established by its own nature, therefore, whatever emptiness is, that is the emptiness of ultimate meaning. This is also to dispel the clinging to reality of beings who have minds that cling to the Nirvana Dharmakaya as real, therefore, the Buddha who understands the ultimate meaning taught the emptiness of ultimate meaning. Because it arises from causes and conditions, that is, because it is born, the three realms are necessarily said to be conditioned phenomena. These three realms are established by their own nature, therefore, whatever emptiness is, that is conditioned emptiness. For any dharma, there is no birth and impermanence, that is, cessation or destruction, and changing from abiding to something else, that is unconditioned. It is established by its own nature, therefore, whatever emptiness is, that is unconditioned emptiness. Third, the extreme is permanence.

If one grasps either existence or non-existence, one falls into the abyss of wrong views. However, it is not like grasping that the continuum of birth and death due to karma is severed for the unconditioned permanence and the Arhat. One should distinguish between permanence and annihilation, which cause one to fall into the abyss of opposing sides if grasped in any way, and the difference between permanence and annihilation alone. That the extremes of permanence and annihilation, on which one falls into clinging to extremes, do not exist, is here called transcendence of extremes. Freedom from extremes is emptiness established by the very nature of freedom from extremes, and this is called emptiness that transcends extremes. As stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Having abandoned the two extremes of existence and non-existence, and purity and impurity, one does not abide even in the middle." It is taught in order to dispel the clinging to truth that thinks the middle way after abandoning extremes is true, just as the Mind-Only school believes that the mind, which is free from extremes such as permanence and annihilation according to its own system, is truly established. There is no beginning that says, "It did not appear before this, but appeared from here," and there is no final extreme that says, "It will not appear after this," therefore samsara is said to be without beginning or end. Because it is devoid of the self-established nature of coming and going, this existence, like a dream, the self-established nature of that existence, What is solitude is the emptiness without beginning or end, as is definitively stated in the great treatise, the Mother of the Buddhas. Abandonment means to scatter and lose, and the non-existence of abandonment means that there is no outward abandonment, that is, one's own essence cannot be abandoned at any time or place, that is, the Great Vehicle that cannot be abandoned. Non-abandonment refers to the emptiness established by the very nature of non-abandonment, that is, the emptiness of emptiness itself, which is called non-abandonment emptiness, because emptiness is the nature of non-abandonment. The nature of phenomena, the suchness of phenomena of conditioned things and so on, is called self-nature, because for what reason? The nature of phenomena, the suchness of phenomena of conditioned things and so on, is not made by the disciples who are hearers, the solitary Buddhas, the bodhisattva sons of the Buddhas, and the Tathagatas, but it is what makes them clear, and from the very beginning it is theirs.
