Even so, fools, not seeing the fear like a snake in the words of others, do not try to avert that fear, but instead, knowing that there is no permanent self like an elephant, they relax their vigilance and remain at ease, and then they will be seized by the snake. Similarly, because of being accustomed to seeing that there is no permanent self like an elephant, if one relaxes one's vigilance, holding back the fear of the innate self-grasping that has entered from beginningless time like a snake, then one will not be able to eliminate the view of the perishable aggregate, which is the self-grasping that exaggerates the aggregates as its object. Therefore, the cycle of existence of this person will certainly not be extinguished. This shows that many in our own and others' schools who wish to ascertain the suchness of things, because they do not know how to refute the object grasped by the innate self-grasping, abandon it and devote themselves to all the assertions that ascertain other suchness, and are laboring in vain in a meaningless place. It is extremely important to understand this. The third part has two points: refuting the aspects of the support, the supported, and the possessor; and summarizing and explaining the meaning of what has been refuted. The first point is: Thus, having shown that the self and the aggregates are neither of the same nature nor of different natures, in order to state that there is also no mutually dependent and supporting nature established by its own nature between the self and the aggregates, it is said: The aggregates, that is, on those aggregates, the self does not exist in the manner of being supported by its own nature; and on the self, those aggregates do not exist in the manner of being supported by their own nature. Why is that? If there were otherness established by its own nature between the aggregates and the self here, then these two distinctions of dependence and support established by their own nature would arise here. Since there is no otherness established by its own nature, therefore, the dependence and support established by their own nature are merely posited by inverted discriminations. For example, in the world, it is seen that a pot and yogurt, two entities with different natures, are mutually dependent and supportive, but such a relationship is not seen between the aggregates and the self, therefore the nature of dependence and support is not established by its own nature. In order to show that the self also does not possess the aggregates by its own nature, it is said: I do not assert that I possess the form aggregate established by its own nature. Why is that? I, the aggregates
