It is said in the Sutra that the self relies on the six elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and the element of consciousness, and the pores such as the nostrils are called the element of space, and the six sense-spheres of eye contact, etc., and is explained in detail by relying on the six sense-spheres of mind contact. Because the mind and the mental factors different from them are held as the basis of imputation, it is called the self, which is clearly and distinctly stated. Therefore, the self is not one of the elements such as the earth element, nor is it different from them, that is, each of them cannot be regarded as the self, and merely their collection cannot be regarded as the self. Therefore, the thought of clinging to "I" that has existed since beginningless time does not target the collection and individual parts of these dharmas. The Sutra says: Great King, a person is the six elements, the six sense-spheres of contact, and the eighteen mental activities. The translation of Naktsé is: the gathering of the six elements, the basis of the six contacts, and the eighteen mental activities. This translation is good. Among them, a person and a pudgala are synonyms. The gathering of the six elements, the basis of the six contacts, and eighteen, these three are the possessing dharmas, so these dharmas are the possessing dharmas, and the pudgala is the basis of possession that these dharmas possess, and it is said to be the basis on which it is imputed as a pudgala. The eighteen mental activities are: for the six agreeable objects, there are six pleasant feelings; for the six disagreeable objects, there are six painful feelings; for the six neutral objects, there are six neutral feelings. Because the mind repeatedly operates on objects such as form and sound under the control of pleasure, pain, and equanimity, it is called mental activity. Thus, in the two aspects of the object of innate ego-grasping, it is neither the object of perception, nor is it the object that is different in nature from the aggregates. Therefore, the object of ego-grasping is not inherently existent. Therefore, a yogi, from not perceiving a self that is inherently established, also has the essence of self that is inherently established.

Knowing that it is not, cutting the bonds of all conditioned samsara, one will surely attain nirvana without taking rebirth in the future. Therefore, one should not regard any of the parts and aggregates of the five aggregates, or anything with a different nature from them, as objects of self-view. Likewise, one should also know well how to establish the object of self-view, the person, and based on these reasons, how to establish the emptiness of self-nature in the person. This kind of reasoned contemplation is most beautiful for those with extremely sharp faculties who desire liberation, because it has an attractive quality that other tenets do not have. Fifth, when seeking the imputed meaning of the object of grasping, the self, as "I," if, as some say, all five aggregates are the self, or only the mind, then as long as the aggregates arise in one's own continuum, the grasping of the person as the self will arise. Thus, if one seeks and establishes the imputed meaning of "I," then that is the basis for grasping the person as the self, and it is also something that exists in the object of appearance. Thus it is said. When one wants to directly realize the selflessness of the person, one only needs to abandon the permanent self, that is, to see that it does not exist. This permanent self is the basis of the innate self-grasping of the view of the transitory, and it is not desired as an object of either the object or the appearance. Therefore, if one says that by becoming accustomed to the knowledge that only sees the emptiness of the permanent self, one can also completely eradicate the view of self that has entered from beginningless time, then, alas, Mala, this of yours is truly wonderful. The very meaning of wanting to abandon the self-grasping from beginningless time by only seeing the emptiness of the permanent self, if one wants to clarify its unrelatedness through a worldly example, is like this: Some foolish people see a snake living in a hole in the wall of their house and live in fear. Another person comforts them, saying, 'Do not be afraid, there is no elephant in this house.' However, knowing that there is no elephant in that house, although it can eliminate the fear of the object, it cannot eliminate the fear of the snake. Alas, this action only increases the laughter of other wise people. Thus, the cause of the fear of the snake is close at hand.
