The reason is that both the sign and the dharma are merely the key points of determination. Thus, this self examined by others should not be the basis of innate ego-grasping either, the sign and example are as before. The so-called basis of ego-grasping means that it is not the object of focus among the two, the object and the aspect. Its object is only the self, as well as the person and so on. Moreover, since it is considered to be substantial, it contradicts the unborn. The object of the aspect is the self of the person, because it is not even established in mere designation. Therefore, it does not contradict the unborn. Therefore, saying that this school believes that the self of the person exists nominally is the key to this school's tenets, and it is speaking arbitrarily without carefully distinguishing the object and aspect of worldly views. Thus, negating the existence of the self and being the object of ego-grasping is done by adding the distinction of ultimate truth to the object to be negated. Not only that, but it should also be known that these two are also negated in conventional truth. At that time, saying that one does not accept the existence of the self means that the self is not substantial. These two signs and examples not only negate the two objects to be negated, but it should also be known that all the distinctions of that self posited by the non-Buddhists do not exist. For what reason? Because the tenets of the Samkhya and the Vaisheshika, etc., whatever the distinctions of that self are taught by the non-Buddhists, all of those are harmed by the reason of the unborn, which is accepted by the non-Buddhists themselves. That is to say, all the distinctions of the self of the Samkhya and Vaisheshika that were previously explained should be negated by saying that they do not exist. In this way, for all those who claim to have a self, with the reason of the unborn and the example of the son of a barren woman, the nature and distinctions of the self posited by them should be clearly understood. Therefore, there is no self that is different in nature from the aggregates, because if the aggregates are not grasped, it is impossible to establish grasping that self anywhere. That is to say, if the self is different in nature from the aggregates, then because there are no two connections, it will become unconnected, and in that case, it is necessary to grasp something like grasping cloth without grasping a vase, but because such a situation has never been seen anywhere.

From... it is not reasonable elsewhere. If there is no acceptance elsewhere, if there is a reason to hold, then it should not be held. It is said. If it is apart from the aggregates, then it will lose the nature of the aggregates. It is said that the near grasping is the aggregates. Another fault is that this self, which is different in essence from the aggregates, should not be regarded as the object of the mind of self-grasping of sentient beings in the world from beginningless time. Because clinging to the non-consciousness self established by the heretics will especially cling to me and mine, thereby generating the view of self. This does not contradict the previous prohibition of "this should not be regarded as the object of the mind of self-grasping." Previously, it was prohibited that the self, merely as a substance, was the object of the view of self, while here it is prohibited that the self, which is different in essence from the aggregates, is the object. If some people now do not understand the self distinguished by permanence and non-arising, etc., then due to past habits, will they also have a view of self-grasping towards that self? It is not so, because only those whose minds have been changed by evil doctrines will cling to the self, which is different in essence from the aggregates, as the basis of self-grasping. For those sentient beings who do not have the habit of evil doctrines in the past, it is also common to see self-grasping arise here. For example, some sentient beings have spent many kalpas in the lower realms, and even though so much time has passed, they are still unable to escape from the birth place of the lower realms. Even though they have not seen the unborn and permanent self established by the heretics, it is common to see self-grasping arise. After knowing this, which wise person would cling to such a self established by the heretics as the basis of self-grasping? Therefore, there is no self that is different in essence from the aggregates. The word ཀྱང་གི་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal meaning) includes those born in hells and other places. The second chapter is divided into five parts: revealing the faults of clinging to the aggregates as the self, revealing the reasons why it should not be clung to in this way, revealing other faults of clinging to the aggregates as the self, explaining the intention of the Buddha's teachings on clinging to the aggregates as the self, and revealing that the views of other schools are irrelevant. The first part is divided into two parts: the true meaning and the fault.
