Why is that? Like this, being attached to one's own view and similarly being disturbed by the views of others, these are the very conceptions of bondage. Because the conceptions of anger and attachment do not subside but increase, they become bondage and not liberation. When this Dharma is not taught for the sake of argument, therefore, eliminate attachment to one's own side and anger towards the other side, and discriminate with reason, then you will quickly become liberated. The "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning" also says: "The great master of non-contention, for them there is no side. For whom there is no side, how can there be another side?" The "Hundred Verses" also says: "If you are attached to your own side, and you do not like the other side, you will not go to Nirvana, and the two practices will not be at peace." The "King of Samadhi Sutra" also says: "Whoever hears this Dharma and becomes attached, and hears what is not Dharma and becomes angry, destroyed by pride and arrogance, they are inverted and confused, and by the power of pride, they will constantly experience suffering." Thus it is said. If you abandon attachment to self and others and the bias of anger, and do not examine with an impartial mind, then meditating on the analysis of tenets will bind you tightly in samsara. Know that this is precisely the special instruction given to us with compassion. From the cessation of self-arising up to here, the selflessness of phenomena has been taught. The selflessness of real phenomena has been taught very extensively, and the selflessness of unreal phenomena has also been taught intermittently. Second, there are three points to proving the selflessness of the person with reason: those who desire liberation must first negate the self that is established by its own nature; the way to refute the self and what belongs to the self as being established by their own nature; and to extend the analysis of the self and the chariot to other things as well. The first point is: Thus, after teaching the selflessness of phenomena with scripture and reason, in order to teach the selflessness of the person afterwards, it is explained: Here, the yogi who wants to enter Suchness and wants to abandon all the faults of afflictions, thinks about what the root of wandering in samsara is like.

Therefore, afflictions refer to desire and so on, and faults refer to birth, aging, sickness, and death, and so on. All of these can be seen by wisdom with the mind, that is, they arise from the wisdom of the afflicted wisdom of the view of the aggregates, which grasps the two aspects of "I" and "mine" as being inherently established. These are all the results of the view of the aggregates. Having seen this way, the desire to abandon the view of the aggregates arises. At that time, if one is wise, then abandoning the view of the aggregates, as in the previously quoted teachings from the Praise of Dharmadhatu and the Four Hundred, one sees that the self does not exist on the object of focus as it is grasped by the view of the aggregates, and thus one sees that it must be abandoned. Then, one contemplates where the view of the aggregates clings, and what its object is. One realizes that the self, that is, the so-called "I," is the object of this view of self. Because the grasping of self is the object of the self. At that time, because one wants to abandon all faults, one must abandon the root view of the aggregates. And this can only be abandoned by understanding that its object, the self, is not inherently established. Therefore, the yogi first contemplates whether this so-called self, the object that is grasped, is inherently established or not. The yogi abandons the view of the aggregates by refuting the inherent existence of the self. If the view of the aggregates is abandoned, all faults will cease. Therefore, the analysis of the self is a method for achieving liberation. The Compendium of Trainings says: If the emptiness of the person is so truly established, then by cutting off the root, all afflictions will not arise at all. As it is said in the Secret Sutra of the Blessed Tathagata: Peaceful wisdom is like this, for example, if the root of a tree is cut, then all the branches, leaves, and small twigs will wither. Likewise, if the view of the aggregates is pacified, then afflictions and near afflictions will all be pacified. So it is said. As it is said, the wise ones agree that one must first clearly understand the faults of samsara and contemplate them, then recognize what its root is, and then when one wants to abandon it, on the method of abandoning it.
