Because that does not become the object of my sight, if it does not exist in ultimate reality, then in conventional reality, it will also be invisible like the child of a barren woman. Saying this is an uncertain reason, it is confused. The Blessed One also said: Beings are like dreams. No distinctions are made in them. In dreams where there are no things, those with wrong wisdom are attached. Although Gandharva cities appear, the city is not in the ten directions, nor is it elsewhere. It is only established by the name of the city. Thus, the Sugata sees these beings. Those who have the perception of water, although they see mirages, there is no water in them. Thus, they are disturbed by complete imputation, and they think of the unlovely as lovely. In a very pure mirror, how do reflections appear without inherent existence? Thus, know the trees and all phenomena. From the scriptures, although forms and so on are not born from inherent existence, they become the objects of worldly clinging. The child of a barren woman is not, so this is uncertain for you. For us, there is no dispute, because we acknowledge that forms and so on are inherently born in conventional reality, but we do not refute them in ultimate reality. Secondly, why does your system hold that forms and so on are inherently born in conventional reality, but not refute them in ultimate reality? Just as the child of a barren woman does not have inherent birth in ultimate reality, nor does it exist in worldly terms. Likewise, all these phenomena of forms and so on are not inherently born in both worldly terms and ultimate reality. As it is said, for those who are confused and cling to the inherent birth of phenomena, the Madhyamikas do not allow them to exist in conventional reality, and it should be remembered that the distinction should also be made clear for the inherent birth that is to be refuted. Therefore, the teacher, the Blessed One, said that all phenomena are peaceful from the beginning, free from inherent birth, and inherently in complete nirvana.

Furthermore, it is not the case that there is a constant, self-existent arising. The way it is spoken is, as it says in the Cloud of Jewels Sutra: When turning the wheel of Dharma, From the very beginning, peaceful and unborn, The nature of Nirvana, All dharmas, protector, you have shown. Thus it is said. The suchness of all dharmas is the realm of wisdom and peace, therefore it is peaceful. The reason for this is that it is unborn by nature. The reason for that is also that if something has self-existence, that is, established by its own entity, if that arises, then self-existence is also non-existent, so what will arise? Therefore, it is Nirvana, that is, pure. "From the very beginning" does not mean that these dharmas are unborn only in the realm of the wisdom of yogis, but rather, it shows that even before that, in the realm of worldly conventions, these dharmas are not born from their own nature. This shows that the word "from the very beginning" is synonymous with the word "first." It is not appropriate for those of our own school to raise the objection that "if it does not exist in the ultimate sense, then it does not exist in the conventional sense either." Why? Because they have already acknowledged that things like pots do not exist in the ultimate sense, but exist as worldly conventions that are well-known. Likewise, all things also change, so if they do not exist in the ultimate sense, it should not lead to the fallacy of being like the child of a barren woman. This is as stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: Whatever is broken or by intellect, Removed, then that intellect does not enter, Like a pot of water, in the conventional, Exists, but ultimate existence is different. Thus it is said, existing conventionally, where the intellect does not enter when broken into parts, like a pot. If it is broken into pieces, then the intellect of the pot does not enter. Also, that which, when another dharma is removed by intellect, the intellect of that does not enter, also exists conventionally, like water. If another dharma such as form is removed by intellect, then the intellect of water does not enter. Whatever, even when broken, the intellect enters, and even when another dharma is removed by intellect, the intellect enters, exists ultimately, like form. Even if it is broken into atoms, or even if another dharma such as taste is removed by intellect, the intellect of the nature of form still enters. The same applies to feeling, etc.
