Because it has already been refuted, as stated in the Sutra of Highest Liberation: "Highest Liberation, form is empty in its own nature," and so on, up to "consciousness is empty in its own nature." In the Abhidharma, all five aggregates are also said to be the same from the perspective of their own characteristics and common characteristics, and so on. Therefore, the opponent will overturn the previously stated order of the two truths, which is established by scripture and reasoning, that external objects and consciousness are both non-existent in ultimate truth and co-existent in conventional truth. After overturning it in this way, it will be impossible for your Mind-Only school's establishment of other-powered existence as substantial. Why? Because it has been repeatedly refuted before that other-powered existence is substantially established. Your efforts will become meaningless. Because it must be admitted that the order of the two truths is indestructible, non-existent in ultimate truth, and existent in name. As previously stated, through such a sequence, it should be understood that all phenomena are unborn in reality from the beginning and born in worldly convention. This shows that phenomena are unborn in ultimate truth and born in name, so the differences of what is to be refuted must be clearly distinguished. The third part is divided into two parts: showing that the Mind-Only view, which states that there is no external world, is provisional; showing the method of understanding the meaning of provisional and definitive sutras. The first part is divided into two parts: showing it as provisional through scripture; showing it through reasoning. The first part is divided into two parts: the actual meaning; and showing that other similar sutras are also provisional. The first part is: even if the meaning of the Tenth Ground Sutra is explained in that way, nevertheless, other scriptures such as the Lankavatara Sutra say: External appearances exist and do not exist, consciousness appears in various forms, body and enjoyment are like places, I say they are only of the nature of consciousness. Thus it is said. Among them, the body refers to the colored sense organs such as the eyes. Enjoyment refers to the five objects such as form and sound. Place refers to the container world. Because there is no external world apart from consciousness, only consciousness appears as body, enjoyment, and place. When it arises, existing as a real object of the environment, the body and so on appear as external objects different from consciousness. Therefore, is the triple world only mind? No.

This is also explained to state that it is intentional. From which Sutra does it say that external appearances do not exist? It is said, "The mind appears in various ways." The intention of that is this: Those who are extremely attached to form, becoming attached to substances that are the cause of attachment, and those who are controlled by anger, pride, and so on, becoming involuntary, due to their attachment to this, they are connected with great sins and degenerate from accumulating the collections of merit and wisdom. In order to avert the afflictions caused by form for these people, the Blessed One, for those who are attached, like a skeleton shown to destroy attachment to external objects. Even if it is not like that, it should be understood that it is only to show the mind-only. Furthermore, if asked, 'How is it certain that this Sutra is provisional and not definitive?' Because the Sutra says, "Without external objects, there is only mind-only." This is the provisional saying of the Teacher, so it can be determined from the Sutra that it is provisional. This Sutra is also a provisional saying that can be established by reasoning. Like this, whether external appearances exist or not, etc., the word "only" shows mind-only, as explained in the Ten Bhumi Sutra, this teacher does not explain that 'it does not prevent external objects, it prevents the agent.' For this, although the word "only" prevents external objects, it is explained that this Sutra is provisional. The great teacher Legden explains that this Sutra also says that the mind is similar to the body, enjoyment, and place, that is, it arises by transforming its form like an illusion, and whether external objects exist or not also prevents seeing without self-nature by discrimination, so it is explained that the word "only" does not prevent external objects. Secondly, by whether external appearances exist or not, etc., showing that there are no external objects, only mind-only, this is not only provisional, but in the manner previously described, those Sutra mind-only proponents acknowledge it as definitive. Furthermore, there are also scriptures that will be explained as provisional, which will be clarified by this scripture. So, what is this kind of scripture? That is, in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, when showing the three natures, the completely imputed nature, the dependent nature, and
