Moreover, what is not understood is not the knowable. Without it, there is no consciousness. Therefore, you say that the knower and the knowable are both without inherent existence. Likewise, consciousness is like an illusion, as said by the Kinsman of the Sun. Its object is also the same, definitely like the object of an illusion. Having said that, if it cannot be established as such a consciousness, then the knowable cannot be established as an object. If it cannot be established that this consciousness knows such an object, then it cannot be established as consciousness. Therefore, without the knowable, there is also no consciousness. Because consciousness and the knowable are established in dependence, therefore you say that both of them are without inherent existence. Therefore, the view of the noble ones is that on those two, in whichever of the two truths, there is no difference of one existing without the other. In the Explanation of the Mind of Enlightenment, it is said: Consciousness understands the knowable; without the knowable, there is no consciousness. What is said is also the same in meaning as the praise quoted earlier, therefore it is the source of the sameness of existence and non-existence of meaning-consciousness. The second has four: refuting the establishment of other-powered self-awareness; declaring that the tenets of the Mind-Only school have fallen from both truths; therefore, it is reasonable to follow only the tenets of Nagarjuna; declaring that the negation of other-powered and conventional truths are not the same. The first has four: questioning the reasons for establishing other-poweredness and declaring it unreasonable; refuting the responses of others who consider it reasonable; declaring that self-awareness is unreasonable by other reasonings as well; declaring that other-poweredness established by its own nature is the same as the son of a barren woman. The first is: Having declared that without an external object, consciousness is impossible to establish, now it is said for the sake of refuting that the object of other-poweredness, distinguished by the absence of an external object, is merely established by its own nature. If, because there is no apprehended external object, it is devoid of the apprehending itself, which is different in meaning from it, and there is an object of other-poweredness that is empty of the two being different entities of the apprehended and the apprehender, then it should be asked, by which consciousness of yours will the existence of this other-poweredness be known? Because it is unreasonable for consciousness itself to grasp consciousness itself, because it is contradictory for oneself to act on oneself. Just as the blade of a sword cannot cut itself, and the tip of a finger cannot

and it cannot be touched. Even a well-trained farmer cannot put a hoe on his own shoulder. Fire cannot burn its own essence, and the eye cannot see its own essence. Here, the other special tenets that say that consciousness cannot hold consciousness will be explained. Consciousness is also not held by a consciousness that is different from itself, because this contradicts the tenets of the Mind-Only school itself. If, when the transformation of the fruit has not yet been attained, another thing different from consciousness is the appearance object of consciousness, then the claim that there is only consciousness will collapse. This is because it is stated in the Mind-Only scriptures. Therefore, if we follow the Mind-Only school, then such holding does not exist in any way, and it is not permissible to say that it exists even without being held by consciousness, when the Madhyamika says this, the Mind-Only person will say: Even if consciousness is not held by other things, self-awareness exists. Therefore, since only self-awareness can hold other-dependence, it exists. If you say that, then it is not established that consciousness itself experiences it. Here, I will briefly explain what kind of self-awareness the Mind-Only school admits, and the source of the previous views. In the Blaze of Reasoning, it says: The Mind-Only school believes that consciousness appears in two ways: as self-appearance and as appearance as an object. The consciousness that appears as an object transforms into the image of an external object, and then becomes the object of the consciousness that appears as self-appearance. As an answer to this question: What kind of appearance is the nature of mind that has transformed from appearing as an object? Therefore, it has not been seen that other than appearing as an object, that is, appearing as oneself separate from it. Thus, the Mind-Only school believes that consciousness looks inward, all dualistic appearances are false, and that consciousness itself knows itself, which is self-awareness. Even so, they believe that in the essence of consciousness, there is no appearance of knower and known being different. The Auto-commentary on the Two Truths also refutes self-awareness, saying: Consciousness is the essence of being devoid of duality, and it arises in the manner of knowing, and without it, consciousness would arise, and if it were not so, it would be unreasonable. Thus, when the Mind-Only school argues that other-dependence is emptiness, free from the imputation of grasper and grasped, and different entities, the other-dependence of consciousness is dualistic appearanc
