In whatever is seen, it should also be understood that all three—object, sense faculty, and consciousness—arise without inherent existence. It is taught that this samadhi is mistaken, that it focuses on what is not reality, as stated in the sutras. If the consciousness that perceives a skeleton were inherently established, its appearance would also change accordingly, and this attention would become an object of reality. This should be acknowledged without a doubt. If it were not so, then as you watch a theatrical performance, how is it that when those who focus their eyes on the scene, the consciousness of the sense faculty, the eye consciousness, arises with the appearance of that scene for one person, and similarly, it arises for other viewers as well? Like a yogi with impure thoughts, another who is not a yogi, when the yogi focuses on the scene where the skeleton is seen, those who wish to see the skeleton and other objects should also have the perception of the skeleton arising, that is, seeing the skeleton, just like the consciousness of blue and other colors. Here, if we follow the commentary, there seems to be a translation that goes: "How is the object of your sense consciousness focused? Likewise, the practitioner of impurity. For others who focus on that object, it also arises. This should not become false." This samadhi should also not become false, that is, it should not become mistaken. Treating yogis and non-yogis equally is also because if consciousness were inherently established, the necessity of meditating on the key points of the skeleton practice would be obstructed. Similarly, one should also know how to respond to the analogies of illusions and reflections, which are similar to those with impaired senses. Regarding the arising of the thought of pus and blood in the minds of pretas in flowing water, it should also be understood as before. Thus, the five forms of the dharma realm are not posited by the proponents of substantiality, but are spoken of in the sutras, and you yourself also acknowledge them as such. Therefore, even though there is no skeleton, but it appears clearly, it should be considered as having form, like a reflection. Since this appears only to mind consciousness, it is not a form sense-sphere like a reflection, but a sense-sphere beyond form.

It is not the ninth either, so it is said to be the parikalpita of the form included in the dharma-ayatana. The appearance of hair shadows in eye consciousness, like an image, is included in the form-ayatana. The river that appears to pretas as pus and blood is seen by their eye consciousness, so it must be established as included in the form-ayatana. The Samgraha Sutra also says: Pretas, animals, humans, and gods, each according to their kind, have different minds about one thing, so it is said that their meaning is not accomplished. Thus it is said. However, in this Samgraha Sutra, it is not clearly explained what the one thing is and how each sees it. In its commentary, written by a upasaka monk, it is said that due to the ripening of their karma, pretas see the river as full of pus, etc., while animals such as fish dwell in it with the thought of a dwelling place, and humans think of it as sweet, clear, and cool water, and bathe in it, drink it, and enter it. The gods who have attained the sphere of infinite space see space, because they have destroyed the perception of form. Thus it is said. To this, some people think that the perceptions of those beings are conventional valid cognitions. If different perceptions are established on one basis by valid cognition, then pus and blood and non-pus and blood are not contradictory. However, if it is established by valid cognition, then it will also become unreliable. If so, if the meaning of the scriptures is understood in this way and established in this way, then valid cognition will become unreliable. However, this is also not possible. What should be done? If you ask this, it is a question with discrimination. If you hold on to the meaning of such understanding and say that what is established by valid cognition is unreliable, then even one sentence like "I understand this meaning in this way" cannot be established, and because you are slandering all valid cognitions, it is extremely unreasonable. Then what should be done? First, an example should be given. For example, if someone who has a vidya-mantra that prevents burning takes a red-hot iron ball that has been heated by fire in their hand, even though the body consciousness perceives the touch of the iron ball, the touch does not arise as extremely hot and burning. This is because of the water used to wash the hands after reciting the mantra. Such a mantra recitation
