It is similar to the lower margins, and it is considered that the obscuration of knowledge is the seed of the mind that grasps at reality. For the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgika, or the view accepted by others, it is necessary to show that the Svātantrika view is unreasonable, and to refute its faults, establish one's own view, and eliminate the refutations against it. The first part includes the actual refutation and the reasons for these faults to arise. The first point is: If merely being accustomed to the emptiness of self-established existence, which is not in accordance with the nature of a person and aggregates, completes the aspect of the view that liberates from existence, then also, being accustomed to the emptiness of the difference between the grasper and the grasped will completely perfect the view of suchness that obtains omniscience. If the difference between the grasper and the grasped is refuted, but the imputation of grasping at the reality of consciousness can still be severed, then, in order to obtain omniscience, it is necessary to realize the true emptiness of consciousness. If it is said like that, then, even if the previous self is refuted, the imputation of grasping at the establishment of a person by nature can still be severed, therefore, in order to be liberated from existence, it is also necessary to realize the selflessness of a person without self-nature. The second point is: Just as the Mahāyāna scriptures say that the selflessness of phenomena is divided into subtle and coarse, similarly, the Hīnayāna scriptures also say that the selflessness of a person is divided into subtle and coarse. Just as the main object of the former's disciples is that it is necessary to show the refutation of subtle objects to be refuted, which is the Madhyamaka, and it is necessary to show the coarse selflessness of phenomena, which is the Cittamātra, and the latter is the incidental disciple, similarly, the latter must also show the subtle selflessness of a person, which is the main object of the Śrāvaka disciples, and the other is the ordinary disciple. Furthermore, realizing the coarse selflessness of a person and realizing the impermanence of a person are the same in whether or not they cut the root of existence, therefore, in order to be liberated from existence, it is necessary to realize that a person is without self-nature. The second point is: If the mind that grasps at the reality of a person is the grasping at the self of a person, then, even if these faults are the same, we consider that only consciousness itself is a person, therefore, grasping at the reality of a person is grasping at the reality of consciousness as a person, so it is said to be the grasping at the self of phenomena that grasps at the reality of aggregates, which is the view of the teacher Lekdenjé. This is unreasonable, because a person is the one who takes the aggregates, and the aggregates are his

Since it is something to be received, it is impossible for the receiver and the received to be one. The belief in a self of a person that you hold is imputed, not innate. Therefore, for those whose minds have not been changed by sectarian views, there will be no cause for rebirth in samsara. Just as realizing that there is no elephant at the base of the wall does not prevent the fear of believing there is a poisonous snake, realizing such selflessness will not lead to liberation from samsara. Third, the seed of clinging to reality is the obscuration of afflictions, and the habitual patterns of dualistic appearance are the obscuration of knowledge. Among these, clinging to reality is ignorance that is afflicted, it is the view of the aggregates, but it is not the clinging to the self of a person; rather, it is the view of the aggregates that clings to "I." That which is clinging to the self of a person but is not the view of the aggregates is the belief that other people are real. That which is both clinging to the self of a person and the view of the aggregates is the view of the aggregates that believes that my own nature is established. That which is neither is the belief that the aggregates are real. In the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" and the "Entering the Middle Way," it is said that clinging to reality itself is the afflicted ignorance that becomes the cause of samsara. This is a valid proof that the Hearers have realized the selflessness of phenomena. Fourth, if the previous coarse clinging to the self of a person is the view of the aggregates, then it is contradictory that one cannot be liberated from samsara because one is accustomed to realizing that its object does not exist. If it is not the view of the aggregates, then is the conceptual thought that believes that the apprehended and the apprehender are different entities not also a clinging to the self of phenomena? Even if it is the view of the aggregates, it is imputed and not innate, so there are no such faults. Then, it is possible that a clear appearance arises from being accustomed to such selflessness of a person. If so, for a selflessness that is completely pure, the arising of a clear appearance would become direct perception of yoga, and if so, one would also be liberated from samsara? It is possible that a clear appearance arises from merely being accustomed to this, but there are no such faults that the realization of the path of joining will not arise. Then, how do we know that the clinging to self is imputed? Because in innate wisdom, merely when a hand hurts, one can faultlessly see the expression "I hurt," so one knows that the nature of I and the aggregates are not the same, or that there is no belief that they are separate, independent entities. Similarly, the apprehended and the apprehender are different entities.
