Notes on Eight Difficult Points, Recorded in a Memorandum According to the Words of the Lord. Notes on Eight Difficult Points, Recorded in a Memorandum According to the Words of the Lord. Herein are the Notes on Eight Difficult Points, Recorded in a Memorandum According to the Words of the Lord. Homage to the noble and venerable ones! Regarding the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way by the venerable master Nagarjuna, there are eight famous commentaries, and among them, the ones that explain the meaning without reversing it are these two by the masters Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti. Regarding these two commentaries, although there are countless subtle differences that disagree with other commentaries, it is said that there are eight important points. That is, in the context of the basis, even in conventional terms, they do not accept self-character and the alaya-consciousness, but accept external objects; in the context of the path, as a means of realizing suchness, they do not accept svaatantrika and self-awareness; as well as the way of establishing the two obscurations; and the way in which the Hearers and Solitary Realizers realize that phenomena are without inherent existence; in the context of the result, it is about the Buddha's knowledge of all that exists. That is, four vows of acceptance and four aspects of non-acceptance. The first of these is the non-acceptance of the alaya-consciousness, for which there is debate and response. The first is, some say: If virtuous and non-virtuous actions remain until the fruit ripens, then they will become permanent, and therefore will fall into the extreme of permanence. If the action ceases in the second moment after it is done, then what has ceased cannot be a real thing, so it is impossible for the action to produce vipaka, so doing the action will become futile. The answer is: Some realize the alaya-consciousness in which the power of the action enters sequentially, even though the action has ceased. Others accept the continuum of consciousness. Some, although they think that the action has ceased, believe that the attainment of the action still exists. Still others believe that there is another entity like a loan guarantee that is not wasted, and use this to answer that debate. Our own answer is: Even if we do not accept the alaya-consciousness and the other four, doing the action will not become futile, and even if we do not accept it, the cessation of the action will not prevent the production of the fruit. If you say that this is not established because what has ceased cannot be a real thing, then if you accept self-character, what has ceased cannot be a real thing, but we do not even accept self-character in conventional terms, so cessation and non-

Because the decaying karma and the non-decaying karma are the same in terms of whether they are real entities or not. However, those who accept self-character do not think that decay is a real entity, because a real entity refers to something that can independently appear in the mind without relying on the negation of other dharmas. Decaying karma, on the other hand, is considered to be such that the karma of the cause of decay first appears in the mind, and there is no independent appearance except for negating it. It is very easy to establish decay as a real entity for those who do not accept self-character, the decaying karma and the non-decaying karma are the same in terms of whether they are real entities or not, because the following and not following of cause and effect established from the thing itself does not exist in the non-decaying karma, and the following and not following of cause and effect established only by name exists in the decaying karma. If it is said that it is not established, because decay is only the negation of a real entity, so the cause cannot do anything, then, in this way, karma will also become without cause, because it has been established, so there is no need to do anything. In addition, after decay is established, it is not admitted that the cause of decay will make some other difference, but only makes decay. Karma does not exist at the time of its own cause, but arises after that. Just as seeing the following and not following, the decaying karma does not exist at the time of karma, but arises after that, so the following and not following of before and after is established on karma. In addition, if decay is not admitted as a real entity, then it also contradicts the scripture "the condition of birth is old age and death", because it says that birth is the cause of death. It is also unreasonable to classify decay into the aggregate of formations. Therefore, karma does not establish birth by its own nature, so decay does not have its own nature. In this way, the decaying and non-decaying, which are only established by name, are the same in real entities. Even if the Alaya etc. are not admitted, because decay can produce fruit, so creating karma will not be in vain, thinking of this, the teacher said: "Why is karma unborn, therefore it has no self-nature, why is karma unborn, therefore it is not destroyed." If it is said, then will the non-existence of a pot etc. also become real entities? That is because the measure of the object of the pot is only established by negation, those two
