This Dharma wheel with power is said to be of definitive meaning. Therefore, some consider the sutras that speak of the Tathagatagarbha as permanent, etc., to be the ultimate definitive meaning and take this as their basis. Others take the Prajnaparamita Sutras as their basis, which is purely a manifestation of ignorance, not understanding the meaning of repaying kindness in detail. Therefore, the methods of distinguishing existence and non-existence that are in accordance with this sutra are of definitive meaning. Secondly, according to what do the Madhyamikas distinguish? It is following the Sutra of Inexhaustible Intelligence. In it, there are explanations, divisions, and definitions of the terms provisional and definitive. Firstly, that which needs to be led to another meaning and that which is definite in that meaning are the meanings of provisional and definitive. It should not be done merely because it is spoken for the sake of guiding sentient beings, because the definitive meaning will also become provisional. For example, when showing "form arises," it is not only the true meaning of form, but also where to lead it. When showing that form is without inherent existence, it is definite in the true meaning of form, because there is nothing higher than this, so it is of definitive meaning. When the meaning that needs to be led to another meaning and the meaning that is definite there are made provisional and definitive, the two truths, conventional truth and ultimate truth, will also become provisional and definitive. When what needs to be led to another meaning and what does not need to be led to another meaning are made provisional and definitive, it is dividing the expressible into provisional and definitive. Secondly, from the point of view of definition, there is speaking from the point of view of the trainees and speaking from the point of view of the basis. Firstly, from the point of view of the trainees, speaking for the sake of entering the path is provisional, and speaking for the sake of entering the fruit is definitive. The path is the wisdom of realizing no self-nature, and the method of entering it is showing impermanence, etc. The fruit is Nirvana, and the method of directly entering it is realizing no self-nature. From the point of view of what is expressed, showing the conventional is provisional, and showing the ultimate is definitive. Among them, showing the self-aspect of the conventional, such as illusion, is definitive, but showing the basis-aspect, such as sentient beings, is not. Secondly, showing sentient beings and individuals, etc., and the aspect of emptiness.

etc. are what were taught. The third is directly showing the ultimate truth, and the meaning of the certainty of the two gatherings with validity, and other than that is the provisional meaning. The previously mentioned Sutra Unraveling the Intent. The teacher Chandrakirti only explains it as provisional meaning, and the teacher Guṇamati says that he explains the other-powered self-characterized as existing, just as it sounds, and the teacher Kamalaśīla says that by establishing the view of no-self-nature, this sutra proves that the no-self-nature spoken of in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra is the definitive meaning, and establishes that tenet. That is how it is explained. The intention of those previously mentioned is that, having realized emptiness as the meaning of dependent arising, with the wisdom that realizes that not even an atom of inherent existence exists, all the fixations of conceptualization are destroyed, and one should be skilled in the two gatherings where all actions are appropriate to that alone. The meaning of emptiness is dependent arising is not appropriate in name and meaning. Because without realizing emptiness, dependent arising will not be realized. It is also not the meaning of object and subject, because dependent arising cannot be its subject. It is also not the meaning of what is said and what is said, because dependent arising is not its expression. It is also not the meaning of direct and indirect, because directly realizing dependent arising cannot indirectly realize emptiness. It is also not the meaning of distinction and complete cutting off, because even if dependent arising is directly cut off, emptiness cannot be distinguished. Therefore, is the phrase emptiness is the meaning of dependent arising not devoid of what is said? If someone asks, in relation to the person before understanding the view, we do not say that emptiness is the meaning of dependent arising, but when the wisdom that realizes that not even an atom of inherent existence exists arises, it is realized that the existence of phenomena cannot be established even slightly from its own side, and when only the existence dependent on others is seen, when the meaning of the word dependent is actually determined, emptiness, which does not exist from its own side, is indirectly determined, and the mind that actually determines emptiness is immediately drawn, so it is said that emptiness is the meaning of dependent arising. The meaning of these has already been extensively explained in the Stages of the Path, so it has not been written in the memorandum. Virtuous!
