However, since the meaning of conventional truth is directly realized, the superimposition of clinging to reality will be cut off by the power of direct valid cognition. In this way, that person becomes an Arya. The negation that is established only as a mere exclusion also becomes the ultimate truth, because the freedom from inherent nature transcends the measure of what is to be excluded. Since the exclusion is not established, the former reason is not established, for if it is not freedom from inherent nature, it will be established as true. Therefore, what is directly obtained by conventional valid cognition is the meaning of conventional truth, and what is directly obtained by ultimate reasoning is the meaning of ultimate truth. Thirdly, there is the determination of the definition of ultimate truth, the determination of the definition of conventional truth, and the way of distinguishing between conventional truth and mere convention. First, when reasoning directly realizes that a sprout is empty of inherent nature, then the opposite of that realization by reasoning is also indirectly realized, because reasoning cuts off the superimposition of not directly obtaining the mind directed towards the emptiness of inherent nature of the sprout. The valid cognition that determines the definiendum also indirectly realizes the definition. Secondly, that blue is established as being obtained by the mere delusion of conventional consciousness, and the valid cognition that measures blue must be established as deluded consciousness. Moreover, this depends on the reasoning that realizes that the self-character that appears in the apprehension of blue is not established, therefore it depends on both the ultimate reasoning and the conventional consciousness that measures blue to determine the definition. Thirdly, some say that blue and so on are conventional truths in the eyes of children, but are merely conventional in the post-attainment of the lower three noble ones, and not conventional truths. If that were the case, then the noble ones would not be able to explain the distinction between the two truths without error, because conventional truth is impossible in their own minds. Therefore, the so-called mere convention is established in the post-attainment of the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, Arhats, and Bodhisattvas who have attained power, and its meaning is to show that there is no conventional mind in the minds of those people that establishes forms, sounds, etc. as true, but rather those.

It is not to say that for beings with conventional minds, forms, sounds, etc., are not established as conventional truths. The Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and the noble learners, as well as the noble ones below the seventh ground, have conventional minds in their continua that grasp things as true, because they have manifest afflictive obscurations. Therefore, one should not say that for their subsequent attainment, forms, sounds, etc., are merely conventional. Therefore, confusing the fact that forms, sounds, etc., are not established as true in the presence of the conventional mind of a certain person with the fact that forms, sounds, etc., are not established as conventional truths in the presence of that person's conventional mind, and not distinguishing between the two, is a mistake. Fourth, the sutra says, "That which is not seen at all is the supreme seeing." The meaning is that, for example, if there is an obstructive form, it can be observed, but if it is not observed, it is called seeing the sky. Similarly, the equipoise of the noble ones realizes the absence of inherent existence, because if it existed truly, it could be observed, but it is not observed. The proliferation of appearances must also be completely reversed, because if conventional appearances occur to those who have not completely abandoned the obscurations, they must appear as true, and therefore must become illusions. Conventional things do not exist in the presence of those who see reality, because if they existed in their presence, they would have to be established as their own reality, but they are not established as their own reality. Third, the acceptance of external objects in conventional terms is that the Yogācārins say that only mind without external objects is established as reality. When asked what the example of this is, they say it is like the state of dreaming. If so, it is not reasonable, because just as there is no external object that is truly existent in a dream, the mind is also not established as truly existent. If, in the waking state, one infers that experience comes from the sign of memory, then there would also be something existent in the dream, because there is memory in the waking state. If it is said that the consciousness of a dream arises from the maturation of the imprints of the consciousness of the appearance of objects due to the cause of sleep, and not due to the power of objects, then when asked why a blind person does not have a consciousness that clearly appears blue, etc., when he wakes up, they answer that it is because there is no cause of sleep. Then, just as a blind person does not have a consciousness that clearly appears blue, etc., in the waking state, it should not arise in the dream state either.
