Therefore, because both are like having no eyes. The reason is accepted. Therefore, just as in the waking state, eyes and objects, and the false consciousness that appears there arise, in the dream state, these three also exist. Just as when Suchness manifests, these three do not exist, in the waking state, the three of the dream also do not exist. If eyes and objects exist in the dream state, then they should also be visible in the waking state. If you say so, then they should also not exist in the waking state, because they do not exist when Suchness manifests. Even if they do not exist there, if the consciousness of the waking state is established together with the object, then the consciousness should also be established together with the object in the dream state. Therefore, in the face of conventional validity, both things and mind are equally existent, and in the face of Suchness mind, both are equally non-existent. Therefore, it is unreasonable to think that things do not exist but mind exists. Fourth, not accepting the Svātantrika, because the general distinction between Svātantrika and Prasangika, and because not accepting the Svātantrika is reasonable. First, the two teachers do not accept the Svātantrika's valid cognition and the object to be measured, so the Svātantrika's reason is impossible. It is not the meaning that merely showing that the Svātantrika is impossible through speech. The valid cognition that is not confused about the meaning of the way of holding independently without relying on the acceptance of others is called Svātantrika valid cognition. Those who hold the Madhyamaka Svātantrika and below say that the reason that possesses the three aspects determined by it is called the Svātantrika's reason. Because it is impossible for it to be like that, they realize the Suchness of other's objects solely through the way of common fame. Although the Svātantrikas accept that the root of the valid cognition that determines the three aspects of the Svātantrika relies on the direct perception that is not confused about the self-character, this teacher makes the self-character held by it the object of refutation of the reason. For the Madhyamikas, it is fine to use the terms Prasangika and Svātantrika as the previous ones did, or they can be divided into two types of Madhyamikas: one is to realize Suchness through accepting the Svātantrika's reason, and the other is to generate the realization of Suchness through the reason of common fame without accepting that basis. The difference between these two reasons is that without relying on the acceptance of others,

I call something "Svatantrika" when it possesses the three characteristics established by a valid cognition that does not misunderstand the meaning of the way to grasp. If it is not like that, but relies on the acceptance of others and possesses the three characteristics determined by a valid cognition, it is called a "Prasangika" reason. Some people think that merely by the three characteristics accepted by others, or the ultimate of acceptance, one can prevent the wrong conceptions of others, and that is Prasangika; doing the three characteristics through the way of being determined by valid cognition is Svatantrika. Others distinguish that merely refuting truth but not establishing non-truth is Prasangika; also establishing non-truth is Svatantrika. This distinction is unreasonable, because it has already been explained in detail elsewhere, so I will not write it here as a memorandum. Secondly, when the Madhyamika establishes that a sprout is without inherent existence to the Realists, it follows that a sprout cannot be the subject of a Svatantrika reason that is knowable. Because at that time, the existence-negation of the basis, the sprout, and the inherent existence of the object to be refuted, when searching for whether the meaning-negations appear separately or not, the Realists assert that they do not appear separately but as one. Then, would it become impossible to be a valid subject of a true reason? There is no fault, because the subject-property that the sprout is dependently arisen is established by valid cognition. Through the way of showing a valid cognition that is harmful to the existence of dependent arising by its own nature, it is possible to generate an inference that realizes the sprout is without inherent existence. If there is no possibility of doubt about pervasion when a harmful valid cognition that has not been seen before exists in a way that it can be seen, then it will become impossible to generate an inference. If there is a possibility of doubt, it will pervade a Svatantrika reason, because there is doubt about whether the dependently arisen reason, which has already been determined by valid cognition and not forgotten, has inherent existence or not. There is no fault, because if there is a Svatantrika reason, then even before one understands the view of the existence-negation of the basis-subject and the object to be refuted, it pervades that the meaning-generals can appear separately. But for the existence-negation and inherent existence of dependent arising, such a thing is impossible. Therefore, it will not pervade Svatantrika either. Furthermore, when establishing that a sprout is without inherent existence, if it cannot be a Svatantrika knowable subject, then when it is already established, it is unreasonable because it can never be.
