O! For those who rely on the four, etc., those noble ones who directly see this truth will transcend the ocean of existence generated by the power of clinging to extremes, because they directly realize the nature of being free from arising and ceasing due to dependent origination. Secondly, for the various four, etc., those ordinary beings who cling to things as being established by their own nature will be deceived by their own minds and wander in samsara, because they have become subject to afflictions such as attachment. The reason is that their mind streams are bound by the fault of the inverted view of clinging to extremes of existence and non-existence. Thirdly, the way the noble ones who have perfected their conduct see, is the way the protector Nagarjuna himself sees. Firstly, for things, etc., these impermanent and deceptive things, the wise noble ones who have perfected their conduct directly see that they are devoid of all natures, because they directly see the accumulation of benefits for the weak, and the emptiness of self of phenomena and persons. Secondly, for dwelling, etc., these formations, etc., do not truly abide due to the power of the three conditions, because all three conditions that cause dwelling are not true. The self-condition, the object-condition, and the immediately preceding condition, successively show selflessness through the three: non-dwelling, non-object, and rootlessness. In the third line, that, although it is without nature, there is a reason why it appears to have nature, because it appears as true from the power of the cause of ignorance. Then in one line, that, it is without nature, because it is free from the nature of the three: beginning, middle, and end. Again in two lines, that, although it is without nature, it appears to have nature from the power of ignorance, because, like a water tree, it has no essence at all, and like a city of gandharvas, although it is not real, it appears to be real. In the last two lines, the protector Nagarjuna, directly sees that all formations are devoid of all nature, because he directly sees that all endless beings in the city of delusion are like illusions.

Therefore, the fourth point concerns the knowledge of scripture and the knowledge of reason. The first point is that, for Brahma and the others, all conditioned phenomena are like illusions, without leaving any other dharma, because the Buddha said that those Brahmas and others who appear to be real in things beyond the senses, who are considered the standard of the world, are actually seen as false by the noble ones. The second point is that, for the world and the others, if it is as previously excluded, then ignorance will become blind, therefore, Brahma and others who are immersed in the stream of desire, and those wise people who are free from desire for objects, will see the reality of things in the same way, because there is no possibility of sameness. Regarding how to explain this to others, and the faults of explaining it in the wrong order, and its remedies. The first point is that, for those who seek the truth and strive to realize it, one should first show the skandhas, dhatus, ayatanas, etc., without denying the conventional truth, because understanding the conventional truth is the method of understanding the ultimate truth. The latter two lines are that, for those who later understand that conditioned phenomena are subject to arising and ceasing, and who have no attachment to samsara, one should show emptiness of inherent existence, because at that time they have become vessels capable of receiving emptiness. The second point is that, for those who have not yet become vessels, one should not first show emptiness, because if emptiness is shown, they will not first understand the meaning of emptiness of inherent existence, and in the middle they will only hear the sound of emptiness and follow it, and they will not perform virtuous deeds, so this will lead to great meaninglessness. The third point is that, for those who seek the truth, one should show the order of entering and returning from samsara without confusion, first showing good and non-good deeds and their results, and the way of revolving in the five realms of samsara, that is, the truth of suffering and the truth of origin, and then showing the truth of the path that fully knows emptiness of inherent existence through direct perception, and the truth of cessation that is free from inherent arising and sudden defilements. In order to prove that this is the intention of the Victorious Ones, the spoken skandhas etc. are explained as provisional meaning, and the spoken unborn is explained as definitive meaning.
