Since it is not applicable to the term "having," such as the object taken and the aspect of the taker measuring it. Even the hair streaks appearing to those with cataracts are said to be by those with self-nature, etc., this is not observing the pervasiveness. There is no fault of non-establishment, because the dual appearance vanishes in the face of the taker's aspect. Even if the object and the object-holder appear separately in subsequent conceptualizations, it will not lead to the fault of the object-taken aspect and the taker's aspect experiencing it having dual appearance. Eliminating the three phrases of "non-dual," these four points can be applied anywhere in this context. The second proof is: If defining the commonality of following two things together as common, and defining the meaning of not following other things as self-characteristic, then it is not valid in any way, because blue and so on follow their own multiple appearances. Therefore, it should be determined from the perspective of how it appears to the mind: In conceptualization, one dharma appears to commonly follow multiple things, and that appearance itself is the general characteristic; and for things like blue direct perception, the meaning appearing in a non-common way is the self-characteristic. In short, the commonality is the object taken by the conceptualization that grasps the common, and the measurable object that is not so, the two are definite in number. The third proof is: It appears to the knowledge arising from sound, which is produced from the dominant condition of the expressive sound. Unlike what is seen by non-conceptual knowledge, the meaning that does not appear in a way that is not mixed with other things is the general characteristic; and the measurable object that is not so is the self-characteristic. The meaning is: For the measurable object as the basis, the ability to fully manifest its own essence and the inability to do so are definite in number. The auditory consciousness hearing the sound "vase" and grasping it, the appearance of the vase in the conceptualization drawn by its power is the meaning of the expressive expressing the expressed. That the self-characteristic is the expressed of sound in the ultimate sense has been refuted before and will be refuted later. If it is generally considered not to be the expressed, it is as absurd as saying my own mother is a widow. The fourth proof is: Any object that can know itself merely by the existence of mental activity and so on different from itself is the general characteristic; even if these exist, if it does not exist in a non-common way of abiding, it is an object that cannot be known.

That is the own characteristic. Those four reasons, the first is established from the aspect of the self-nature of both the self and the general, and the latter three are established from the aspect of the object and the object-possessor. That is also one from the aspect of expression and two from the aspect of mind. The ultimate meaning is whatever is capable of performing a function, etc., is a summary of the meaning. Those are the five pairs of reasons established by the measure of quantity, which distinguish and explain the difference between what exists conventionally and what exists ultimately. In debate, one should understand by eliminating the impossibility of the definition, eliminating the over-pervasiveness, eliminating the non-pervasiveness, and the meaning established by it, and eliminating the similarities of the five pairs of reasons. The first is: It is impossible for there to be a function in the ultimate sense, because it is not established by the power of appearing to the mind, but rather the thing itself is established from its own side. Because it is impossible. If you say that your definition is impossible, it is unreasonable, because the ability of seeds, etc., to benefit sprouts, etc., is seen manifestly, so the reason is not established. The second is: Those are all produced conventionally, not ultimately, so the definition will become over-pervasive, if you say so, no matter how you name it, as long as it is not fabricated by yourself, it is the only reason that the ability to perform a function exists ultimately. Furthermore, what is the meaning of the conventional, false, of your saying "produced conventionally"? If it is that all abilities are absent, then saying "produced conventionally" becomes contradictory, because the ability to perform a function and the inability to perform a function are mutually exclusive. If you think that the meaning of conventional is the meaning of production, then saying "produced conventionally" becomes producing production, which is unreasonable, and there is no production in the ultimate sense. The meaning of saying this is that no production becomes non-production, and you yourself have not admitted that non-production will produce, so it is unreasonable. The third is: Because it exists conventionally, it can also perform a function, so the definition will become confused, if you say so, what exists conventionally is the general characteristic, and it does not even do the function of producing self-grasping consciousness, because it has not been seen to follow and cease with the helper. Therefore, it is also said that the mind that distinguishes things like phenomena and so on has Other objects. The fourth is: The arising of self-appearing consciousness has coemergent causes, faculties, attention, and so on.
