In short, the meaning of offering praise also actually depends on inference. In order to explain both the words and meaning of the Compendium of Topics, it is first necessary to establish inference for one's own sake. Because the words and meaning are completely explained, it is not considered contradictory that this is inconsistent with the chapter order of the Treatise on Valid Cognition. In order to eliminate the four misconceptions, it is stated that the third chapter is taught, which is the general statement: "Valid cognition," etc. To eliminate the misconception about numbers, it is "Here, at first," etc. Here, in order to establish the numerical determination of valid cognition, it is necessary to state the sign and establish the reason. The first is indicated by "Because the object to be measured is two." Among them, there is no third valid cognition that is neither perception nor inference, because there is no third object to be measured that is neither self-character nor general character. If it is thought that the numerical determination can be established in this way, it is extremely unreasonable, because in order to establish the numerical determination, it is necessary to eliminate both the refutation side and the establishment side's three aggregates. It is not enough to do only that. If it is thought that there is a valid cognition that is neither perception nor inference, the numerical determination will be destroyed. This is merely a one-sided statement that has not properly understood the way to establish the numerical determination, because according to your view, if the basis of classification is admitted, the numerical determination cannot be established, and if the numerical determination is established, the basis of classification cannot be admitted. The same fault also applies to the numerical determination of perception as four, the aggregate determination as five, etc. According to your view, there is no way to make a numerical determination at all. If you must do it, then your own fault will fall on your head. Therefore, there is much doubt about refuting the three aggregates of the refutation side from the establishment side. This is because other schools admit other valid cognitions such as analogy and measurement that are different in entity from perception and inference. In order to refute this, just like the previously stated proposition, it is merely a similar proposition. It should be done according to the statement of Acharya Dharmakirti: There are no three valid cognitions that are different in entity from perception and inference, because there is no third object to be measured that is different in entity from self-character and general character. This is understood from the chapter on establishing numerical determination in that commentary itself. Although it is necessary to eliminate both three aggregates in order to establish numerical determination, this is not a refutation of the means of establishment of numerical determination. "Because the object to be measured is two," means that the scope of valid cognition is summarized into two: self-character and general character.

This is not set as a sign, because there are many cases of measuring the self-character through inference and measuring the common character through perception. Second, in establishing the reason, establishing pervasion is: In the self-commentary of "Collected from All Valid Cognitions," it says that the object to be measured is determined to be two, therefore valid cognition is also determined to be two, that which has the object of its own characteristic is perception, and that which has the object of the general characteristic is inference, and so on. The teacher Gyalwang explains this from the perspective of determining the meaning of what is held, and one should not doubt that valid cognition is only perception, because one sees other objects to be measured from the self-character. This eliminates the number being too few, and it is thought that determining the object to be measured as two eliminates the number being too many. The meaning is that the appearance of the self-character actually arises and is taken as the object to measure the object to be measured, and the appearance of the common character actually arises and is taken as the object to measure the object to be measured, and because it is determined to be two, valid cognition is also determined to be two. Explaining the root sign's commitment is "because it measures through this," and so on. In measuring, from the perspective of the agent of both the action and the agent, valid cognition is established, and it is also determined to be only two, this is not determined to be only perception, because inference will also be established as valid cognition. If it is said that when showing the definition of valid cognition, showing the three, such as number, is meaningless, then this is not meaningless, because these three have the meaning of realizing the definition as completely pure. That is to say, perception and inference, for those who are not deceptive, become the common definition represented as valid cognition, and if the two, perception and inference, which are represented, do not have another definition other than the common definition, then a single definition cannot separately represent these two. Showing through the way of determining the difference allows one to realize the difference definition as completely pure, and realizing the difference definition also allows one to realize the common definition as completely pure. If the object of experience is not shown, then hair, illusions, etc. will also be considered as valid cognition, and seeing that these are deceptive, one will doubt whether valid cognition has the certainty of not being deceptive, so in order to cut off this doubt, the object of experience is shown. If the result of valid cognition is not shown, one will doubt that valid cognition and the object to be measured are different in entity, and also because one does not understand the object to be measured, it is not suitable as valid cognition, therefore the result of valid cognition is shown. It is also unreasonable for valid cognition to be more than two, because the object to be measured is more than two
