It becomes a valid cognition because blue reaches its ultimate point. Even if a moment is grasped, it is not definite, nor is it its ultimate point, so it is not a valid cognition. This is because blue alone completes the function of being the object. Therefore, a moment must be determined by another valid cognition. Both the general and the particular are determined from themselves, such as when the particular is grasped. Both the tree and the shapa are grasped, and there is no doubt about the shapa. The valid cognition that measures the tree shapa is a valid cognition for both the general and the particular. As for the moment, even if it is grasped by the blue-grasping direct perception, it is not definite. Appearance is also not determined from itself, so it can only be established by another valid cognition. Similarly, when determining color, one should also look to other valid cognitions to determine the tangible objects that move along with it. That touch is also not determined solely by the valid cognition of functional appearance, but is also determined from seeing some things that would not arise without it. Therefore, the doubt that arises after direct perception is after the appearance is determined. If it is not determined, it is unreasonable to think, "Is it a shapa or something else?" Therefore, doubt does not prevent the function of direct perception. For that very reason, just like a habituated direct perception, if there is no meaning determined by experiencing things from oneself, then for one's own nature, that other direct perception itself is a valid cognition. The later arising difference that eliminates doubt, the valid cognition that measures the shapa, also does not grasp the relationship that "if there is no shapa, then the valid cognition that measures only the tree before will not arise." This is because it does not grasp the previous knowledge. The later valid cognition is not a valid cognition that relies on a sign, because it merely arises and eliminates doubt about the manifest thing, and there is also no recollection of pervasion. If the clear habituated direct perception of the knowledge that experiences the object needs to be inferred as a valid cognition by the later knowledge, then when stating the harm to the distant, it would be unreasonable for the three harms to be such that nothing other than the experience of the object can be established as valid or non-valid. Therefore, the determination of appearance is the completion of the function of direct perception, while conceptual valid cognition is not like that, because of the power of determination, the object

It should be established. A conceptualization that does not rely on reasoning is hesitation because it has not eliminated doubts about other means. It is also not a means of attaining the object, because it is impossible for a thing to be both existent and nonexistent. A valid cognition that is a conceptualization is valid because it arises only if the object to be measured, whether it is an existent or a nonexistent thing, exists, and it becomes valid through the force of its own certainty. The function of direct perception is to ascertain appearances, so doubt does not obstruct its function, but superimposition does, as can be known from the Pramāṇavārttika. Some say that a non-habitual direct perception arises from non-valid cognition, but this is irrelevant; it should be said that it arises from uncertainty about validity. There is no fault of mutual dependence between engaging with that which does not arise if it does not exist, which is determined by another valid cognition, and the valid cognition itself, because it can also arise from doubt. It is also unreasonable to say that a direct perception that has no sensory defects and does not deceive with respect to objects that are close is one that arises from certainty about validity, because the sensory consciousness of a double moon is deluded with respect to the double moon, but it does not deceive with respect to the stainless sky. In any case, it is said that these meanings are completely cut off in order to establish inference as valid cognition for distant objects, and to express that there is no difference between meaning and mind. Saying that these are irrelevant is because it is not to show the general definition of validity, and the uncommonness of meaning and mind, but to show the general definition after determining the number here, and to prevent the definition of direct perception that arises in its continuation from being common. In the case of "accumulation is collection," in order to avoid contradicting the scriptures, according to the Sautrāntika school, when sensory consciousness grasps external objects, neither the general nor the particular of the collection is taken as the object of apprehension, nor do the atoms appear scattered. The coarse appearance is also not apparent. The atoms that can generate sensory consciousness depend on previous causes and conditions. The meaning of Vasubandhu's scripture is also that incomparable atoms cannot generate sensory consciousness; many must be accumulated. Because "form" and "blue" must be led to the āyatana, it is the object of the own-character of substance.
