As it appears. Therefore, grasping at mixture is mental thought, not sensory perception. Therefore, sensory perception, since it does not have any of the three ways of being mistaken, how can it be justified to grasp at non-mixture as mixture? External objects being coarse and directions being different, there is not even a slight contradiction. If there is delusion about other parts of the matter that has become manifest, or if other parts are not real, then in all ways it cannot be a valid sensory perception. If other parts are not measured by that valid cognition, then it should be understood from other valid cognitions. And delusion is delusion about all parts of its own object, therefore, in order to negate that it is sensory perception, it is mentioned that it is not mistaken. Others, such as the teacher Gyalwang Lodro, think that the sensory consciousness of grasping a yellow conch is not a valid cognition in terms of color, but it is a valid cognition in terms of shape. In order to negate that it is a valid cognition for all parts, it is mentioned that it is not mistaken. This statement is also unreasonable. If it is a valid cognition for one part, there is no need to prove that it is not a valid cognition for other parts. It is also unreasonable to mention that valid cognition is not mistaken for the sake of entering the object, because it is understood from terminology itself that terminology is not a valid cognition. Shape is not something that can function as a different substance from color. If there is no delusion about color, how can there be no delusion about shape? The sound of the conch is also directed towards the color with the characteristics of shape. Obtaining the conch also depends on other valid cognitions, not from grasping at yellow. Therefore, grasping at contradictory nature is deceiving all parts of the object, so it cannot be a valid sensory perception. Furthermore, the teacher Dharmottara, at the beginning of the commentary on Pramāṇaviniścaya, when explaining the general categories of valid cognition, there are six points: the basis of classification, the number of classifications, understanding that the number itself is meaningful with pure characteristics, explaining the terms of perception and inference, the general characteristics of valid cognition, and determining non-deception by valid cognition itself or others. The first point is: when analyzing what is infallible as the cause of obtaining and abandoning, classifying the correct knowledge that enters the occasion of analysis, it shows that there are two types. In order to show that it is not the knowledge of the appearance of the function of things, it is said "that". The knowledge of the appearance of the function of things is the classification of the two valid cognitions.

It is the basis, and a reason should be added to cut off what is merely a valid cognition and what is capable of functioning. Although the master Dharmakīrti said that the valid cognition that functions as the basis of division is not necessary, it is only a reversed conceptualization to think that the number of valid cognitions is not fixed at two just because of that reason. Therefore, it should be examined whether the number of valid cognitions can be determined by taking that as the basis of division. It is unreasonable to refute without understanding the intention of the commentary. The so-called "two kinds" is the classification of numbers, and the remainder is the classification of names. Although the remaining words establish the determination as two kinds, the reason for saying "divided into two kinds" earlier is that it can also be seen in the world, just as "oil containers, etc., are two." Although "etc." is a dual number word, and two are established, it is also said "two" for the purpose of understanding the number. Alternatively, it is said to indicate that it has already been established that valid cognition is definitely only two kinds: direct perception and inference. Some people think that it is well known in the world, but it is unreasonable to take unnecessary examples, so it is said that the latter two explanations are good, which is to make it easier to understand the unreasonableness. Second, shouldn't the differences be shown only by distinguishing them from the common characteristics of valid cognitions of different types? What is the use of showing the number? Indeed, the common characteristic is for the purpose of understanding the completely correct meaning, that is, not deceiving is the basis for being able to function, and that is all. If this determination of number cannot be understood, the completely correct common characteristic cannot be understood. Then, before showing the characteristics of direct perception, is it necessary to show its number? It is not the same, because it is shown after the number of the two valid cognitions and the common characteristics have been understood, and by cutting off non-valid cognition and inference itself, it is easy to understand that direct perception is a valid cognition. Third, in order to dispel the unwanted, the etymological explanation and usage of the desired direct perception are shown: Separating the word "प प्रत्यक्ष (Tibetan, Devanagari, pratyakṣa, direct perception)", प (Tibetan, Devanagari, pra, repetition) means repetition, and अक्ष (Tibetan, Devanagari, akṣa, sense organ) means sense organ. Therefore, direct perception is based on each sense organ. This is the reason for explaining the etymology. The reason for the usage of the word is: because it makes the self-character manifest, it is called direct perception. Etymological explanation and usage.
